Waiter, send a case of thumbs up to that table, on me.

Nice work. You'll have way Exo Mans than me in no time!

Yes, please let us know what mold material you used - that looks fantastic! I need to cast up some figures (including more Exo suits) and that two-piece mold looks really good. If you have any tips to share, that would be great as well!

UberChris - Well, the nice thing about the Exo-Armored Squat model is that it lends itself to being a two part mold. It doesn't have any funky curves or whatnot. You can see that if you look at the mold line on the figure, it really is just two parts. So, that's where the edges of your two molds go.

    1. Smush that Squat face down into the Blu-Stuff up to the mold line. Stick a post or two next to him for alignment purposes. Wait four minutes.

    2. Take the second ball of Blu-Stuff and smoosh it on top of the back of the Squat. Wait four minutes.

    3. Pull the two molds apart (Blu-Stuff does not stick to itself, plastic or Greenstuff). Carve a vent on the bottom of the mold for excess Greenstuff to vent.

    4. Grab some Greenstuff and mix it 1/3 Blue and 2/3 Yellow (tradeoff of less stiffness for more detail) and drop a pea-sized blob into the mold. Using the pegs, squish the molds together. Wait 24 hours or so.

    5. Gently pull apart the mold. Trim the flash. Be amazed! Or, if your mold didn't turn out quite right, that's okay, just try again. My first mold sucked because I cast the back first and then the front. That was wrong. Cast the important side first!

I hope that helps. Ask more questions if you'd like!

Great little tutorial - thanks.
I'll have to give it a try sometime with a couple bits i am short of.
Luckily, you probably wont need to cast too many - with the current lists, you'll likely have 1-2 stands max and maybe 3 models per stand.

Glad to help. I like a lot of infantry, so I'll probably cast up a number of them. It is a bit of a pain to do, but since there aren't any proxies (hint, hint manufacturers) what choice do I have?

What does one do with a case of affirmative thumbs? ;)

Thanks for the kudos. I appreciate it. And thanks to you for my master model. Without it, where would I be? Sans thumbs at my table!

If you find yourself short of Exo-Armored Space Dwarves, let me know.

Here we go! The first off of the line is a detachment of Squat Thudd Guns.

They took a little while to get sorted out because I have not worked in 6mm in over a decade and I needed to remember all of the things that work in that scale. Now, what should I work on next?...

Very clean, and great use of bright colours and contrast.

Thanks for the kind words!

I was trying for sort of a retro look to them. That's why I wanted the colors to pop. The paint job is pretty basic: after I drilled out the gun barrels of the Thudd Guns, I painted a base coat and after it dried applied some ink washes. Then I dry-brushed blue onto the gun. It was a very straightforward paint scheme.

The photos are a little light. The truest colors are closest to the bottom photo. Maybe I can upload one or two more that capture the color better.

I am having a great time with my return to this scale!

A formation of warriors, then some Thunderfires and a war engine. Nice way to see how the colour scheme will unify across different sizes, confirming how it'll work and look good (before doing too much of one thing to feel like stripping and restarting is a viable option).

Anyway, voicing the above - they're very nice. I bet they pop nicely on a battlefield.

Those are the best Thudd Guns I've ever seen.

Excellent Thudd Guns. Can't wait to see what comes next - I may have to steal some of your ideas. ;D

DK -

I, uh, er... um... drat! I have been exposed. I have no Thunderfire Cannons. What sort of self-respecting Space Dwarf Warlord is without TF Cannons?!? The other warlords will make fun of me. Oh, the shame of it all. I wonder if there is a good proxy out there?

I agree with you: a Warrior formation is next. I love infantry and the little Squats are fun to paint up. In place of TF Cannons I may do a squadron of gyrocopters. Then I'll be warmed up for a proper war engine.

Thank you again for providing the models. I'll continue to give them a good home.

Stormwind & taiaha -

Thanks for the props! I appreciate it! I wanted to start on a basic unit to get the kinks ironed out. I figured that a lowly Thudd Gun unit would be perfect; nobody expects anything from a Thudd Gun unit.

Interestingly, the thing that added the most to them was one of the first things that I did: drilling out the barrels. Once I saw them drilled I knew that they would end up looking good.

Feel free to steal ideas and ask questions. For my next unit of Thudd guns I have another trick up my sleeve. I thought of it when these were finished so I decided I'd save it for the next five.

Thanks! Here's another picture. This one is closer to the actual colors than the previous three. They are still a little rich, though. That's the problem of shooting with the iPhone during the Magic Hour.
