It was a long way, but finally I'm done for - content, but beat.
I decided to do something along a MKII or III. I started with high hopes and a much too detailed model. I reduced detail step for step, and the only the helmet and a discernible backpack prevailed.
Somewhere along the way I changed the resin - different manufacturer, different properties.
For one the color is orange instead of red and it's harder when cured and feels close to a hard plastic miniature, while the red one felt more like an Airfiix orr HaT miniature.
I thought using the red resin was messy, but the orange one tops it easily. It's like sand from a beach, which you will encounter for weeks after returning home.
I printed a stalker besides the SM models, to be able to compare the quality of the resins and the results are visibly sharper.

I did multiple test prints of miniatures and you can see this among other things in the different thickness of bases and patterns in the armor.

But all that is like pixel peeping in photography. Might be interesting, but what counts is the print or in our case the painted model.
6 models compared to ordinary space marines. My models are from different generation as can be seen in the bases and the band around the helmet. In older revision it sags down over the eye portion.
There are three poses in this photograph. The officer striding with gun to the front, the ordinary Epic SM pose, and an unarmed guy strolling around, beating time.

Rearshot

And a last shot from an oblique angle.

This was meant to be a test, whether I would be able to do some infantry.
And I'd say: Yes.
Where to go from here ?
There is some room for improvement, like in the face, probably adding some decoration to the armor or additional armor plates and weapon options.
But I'm fed up with infantry in the moment and luckily, I do not really need SM models.
So I let infantry rest for a while and start something different, preferably less organic.
While waiting for the Marines to grow, I designed some Eldar objectives fitting to the old models. I'm painting them right now - so they are done.
I'm out-phaseing my old GW flyers and replace them with Forgeworld stuff. The FW Thunderbolts are already replaced, but instead of paying through the nose for not longer available FW Marauders I will do my own models.
I love the FW Marauder, but I will do something different, probably a bit more Space Marine like. I'll see.

SH
