If you add pigment to the plaster before you cast it, chipping isn't nearly as big of a deal. Dye it close to the intended paint color and anything that chips off will just show the colored plaster.

Good idea Nealhunt, I'll do that.
I've just finished painting another group of 6 Boyz and a few more Tinbotz, so I've now got a mini force! Once I've finished the 30 Boyz stands I'll start basing everything, that should give them a nice image boost.
I'm feeling a lot better about the painting now that I have stopped thinking about how many I've got left to paint, so hopefully I'll be able to carry on with it and finish in time for the next painting competition.
I've just won some more Shok Attack Gunz from ebay, so I'm going to make some more gunwagon conversions with them. I think they are my favourite conversion, it seems to work quite well.

Falesh,
I love your models.
The Shokk Wagun is especially cool!

The battlewagon konvershuns are excellent! You have the makings of a very characterful and "Orky" army. Good 'un, chief mek! Jus' remember dat it's da Orky kultur dat matters!

I really should have read the fluff again before starting to paint my models, I had totally forgotten that Orks have red eyes. Since reading that I have been repainting all my infantry's eyes red, still at least it didn't take too long.
eyes (poor quality as my brothers camera is out of power)

Quote (Falesh @ 25 2004 Jan.,11:25) | | Whilst I admire you greatly for painting the eyes on your orks, I've never been a great fan of they results in 6mm scale.
Your force is looking good, but as you have said many times in your posts, there's still quite a bit to do. I would save such details as eyes for after the bulk of the force is complete. Then you can go back and ad details to your hearts content.
This also has the advantage that once you've completed the entire force, you will have had a lot more experience painting in 6mm scale and will thus also be able to get a better result with fiddly things like eyes!
Keep up the good work, I for one am watching with interest.

Good point, I'm a bit of a perfectionist and sometimes I can get carried away with details. I think I'll finish the infantry with eyes though since I've only got 8 left to do (I have decided not to do the full 30 before the rest of my army since I will rarely be using 30 boyz), but I will not mess about with them all to get them just right until I have done the other models.

I try to add too much detail to my Epic infantry too, but sometimes, because it is 6mm, it is lost ... I've got lots of Infantry to paint also with 9 Epic Armies ! And I've been collecting since '90 !

Well, I've managed to make myself start painting again and I've finished off the Infantry that I'm going to paint. Next I'm going to base them all, I'm thinking of a light colour, maybe desert, to contrast with the dark colours of the models and show them off. Once I've based them I'm going to do any last tweaking to get them perfect then varnish and move to vehicles.
I have had a think about this and I am going to do the models as well as I can paint them as I do them. This is because I am probably not going to paint anything else after this, so I might as well do these to the best off my abilities so I can have something to show off .

I've been doing a bit more lately in between sorting all my old GW stuff for sale on eBay. I have finished cutting at the bases of my 34 Warbikes, I decided to cut them off because I think they will look better with their wheels right onto the base rather then on the little plastic one that comes with them. I have half undercoated them black too, the other half I'll be doing tonight.
I've also decided on a baseing scheam for my units. I was planning on using the colours suggested on Dropship 40,000, but as it happened the sand I was using looked good on it's own. The colour of the base is Graveyard Earth, then just PVA, Sand, PVA again. I'm going to touch the stands up just before I varnish them since a few bits of paint have been knocked of with all the handling.
Finally, I found some more Ork plastic sprue's, so I used a couple of the old Tracktor Kannons on them to make two Zap Waggonz.
