Well I'm back home now after the tournament. I had a really good time, didn't do half as badly as I thought I would with only one game under my belt with the army prior and being about two years rusty. Came 4th and got the players vote best painted army. A really fun weekend and I will definitely be doing more tournaments. Got a chance to see the proposed Epic-UK Death Guard list, discussed a few things, but I really like the look of it, I will probably still play Black Legion 50% of the time but it looks a really interesting and challenging list to play. I've been asked to get some photos for the Army list when it's finally released.. But there are a lot of models I don't have yet.. so before the end of July I want to have made and painted

8 Defilers
1 Nurgle Space Craft
5 more Contagion Engines
15 stands of Zombies
2 Plague Towers
8 more Terminators
2 more Gun Beast
1 Nurgle Demon Prince
2 Hell Talons
4 Nurgle Dreadnoughts
1 Nurgle Warlord
1 Nurgle Reaver
4 Vindicators (If they are still in the Death Guard List, I know they want to drop something and this is one of the things that I don't think are Death Guard Specific)
4 Landraiders

It's going to take a little bit of time.. I'm currently making a Defiler leg and then I'm going to see if I can make 64 copies of it.

The markers I made for my War Engines worked really well.. the Void and Damage markers came in so useful

I'm going to be using these as my contagion engines, I was using them as Bombards when I did my Traitor Guards but they are perfect for the job.. Unfortunately they come in 4s not 3s so I've got to paint at least 1 more. But I would love to have 2 formations.

Constructed the first Defiler leg which I'm going to press cast out of greenstuff, this is not perfect but as I'm making nurgle and I'm just going to use them as the base ti which I'm going to greenstuff extra detailing like pustules and spines onto it should be fine.

It's turned out to be really hard to clean up, and due to the greenstuff being rubbery not being particularly good for using to hold up the bulk of the model. Someone suggested using a mix of 30% blue hardener, 20% yellow and 50% mixed fine milliput. it should dry stiffer but the greenstuff should stop it being brittle and you should also be able to sand it.. well I've been told this... so lets see how it goes

Anyhow I have about 9 legs to use for basing on other projects.

Does anyone know anyone that sells plastic discs in a variety of sizes.. the old Titan ones are impossible to get hold of and I will need ones roughly the size of a Terminator base for Land Raiders and Defilers

In the end the small flight bases were the right size for my Defiler. Should work for my Greater Demon too.. which I'm just going to go up and have a look for.. I have both of the classic ones and the Warmaster one. I'm thinking of going with this one.

It just has so much character and it's not quite as comical as the other classic one.

On to the Defiler. Got the Test one put together. It came out not to bad at all.

Over Easter I'm going to try and get 4 Dreadnoughts, the Defiler and the Last Contagion Engine I need for a formation completed, if I can hide from parents for long enough ;)

Hmm this is definitely in the wrong forum, can someone move it.

Really like the contagion engine conversion, where are the tiny skulls used for dread heads from?

They hang off one of the 40k chaos shoulder pads, think it was a Khorne Bezerker one

Finished the 4 Dreads, will get photos up tomorrow. Got a friend that might have some more classic CSM models so I can get more infantry painted though I'm still trying to source some more Terminators, I will also need to do 6 predators, so when I'm finished I will be able to field everything in the Epic-uk deathguard army. The list feels weak, it's hard to get 9 activations, and with no ranged firepower the Deathguard Infantry need to Engage to do anything, a hard thing to do when you are slow and have low activation. But I'm planning to run a test game each week and see how it feels. It might just look bad on paper.

As promised a photo of the Dreads.

And I managed to put together another 4 Contagion Engines, I will hopefully have most of them done by the end of tomorrow. I'm also starting to put together some ideas for the plague tower. I want it to be quite big, it's DC 8, so should be comparable to a Great Gargant in size, which should look impressive as a centerpiece to the army.. though I really want 2 in the end.

Image

Also I need to get at least 3 more Defilers made, and start on the Space Ship, I'm not sure what I want to use as a base. I have quite a few chaos ships I could start with though I'm also tempted to start with a strike cruiser. any opinions?

Remember, Strike Cruisers are a post-heresy innovation, after the Space Marines were sundered from their IN transport. Go with a regular Chaos Cruiser.

Actually they are not, the Ultramarines had the Mlatus, and there were definitely a few of the newer designs among the Chaos Legions. Most of the main Heretic Legions used varients of the standard Loyalist Gothic ships, there were very few of varients that are in the Chaos Gothic Fleet strangely, they have been added to the Chaos fleet after the heresy as they were an older design that went out of fashion and therefore were easier for the traitors to pick up.
