@ Markonz, B-C-P: Cheers!

OK, well not more marines this time, but a W.I.P. of my first War Engine to support the little guys: a Reaver Titan. This guy was originally going to be from Legio Tempestor - the Storm Lords, one of the Titan Legions that went traitor and was present at the siege of the Imperial Palace. However, Mechanicum has put the exact 'canon' nature of the Storm Lords Legion in limbo - were there two Legions known as the Storm Lords, one of which went traitor and the other stayed loyal? Was there one Storm Lords Legion, Legio Tempestus, which split? Have the Traitor 'Storm Lords' been removed from the background entirely? Who knows. Anyway, for the moment he is from Legio Tempestus, seeing as the colour scheme I had decided for him matches the 'cobalt blue' description of Tempestus from Mechanicum.

The model was an old Reaver I had from way back in the Epic - Space Marine days. The arm weapons are plastic Gatling Blasters from the Warlord Titan weapons. I added a bit of ruin and some guardsmen on the base to add a bit of interest and highlight the scale of the Titan.

He is not 100% finished. The rocket launcher to go on his carapace is missing, so I will need to find a replacement somewhere. Also I need to finish his base (including painting the two guardsmen I added) and add one or two touch ups and detailing, particularly re-defining some of the rivets. Photo isn't great - blue is a bit deeper in real life. I'll add some more, improved pictures once he's finished.

Regardless of which version of background fluff you believe I think you have done a great job here.

My own personal opinions stem from the boardgame Horus Heresy where each of the 3 traitor legions mentioned is given to a particular chaos faction with Khorne making up for this loss with the inclusion of daemon engines. Thus we have:

Storm Lords - Slaanesh
Flaming Skulls - Tzeentch
Death Heads - Nurgle.

With regard Mechanicum the fact that all of Legio Tempestus present on Mars was wiped out gives you free reign to use Legio Tempestor as whatever you wish.

Oh and damn you I have a reaver in exact same configuration with the addition of plasma destructor on top.

Ooh, I'd missed this before, great stuff. I love those jetbikes especially.

One thing though. Weren't hunters a fairly recent STC rediscovery? So that a pre-heresy legion probably wouldn't have them.

I thought I recognized that Titan ;)

I did not see the guardsmen at first. Wonderful addition to the base.

Looking great with the Reaver; do you reckon you could scratchbuild a rocket launcher or are you trying to keep to original parts? Nice clean look.

@Daemonkin: Cheers. Actually, I'm hoping it turns out that Tempestus splits - that way I can use my titans as heresy-era loyalists or traitors, and even post-heresy loyalists (seeing as Tempestus pop up again in Titanicus).

Interesting to hear you went for a similar configeration - I decided on a Missile Launcher though to make this guy a general purpose titan, effective against both infantry and armour - plus the blasters are similar enough that I can use him as the 'standard' reaver if expanded titan rules are not used.

@AxelFendersson: I couldn't find any background to that effect myself - Imperial Armour mentions Hunters in passing as 'a far more ancient STC design' that has largely been replaced by the Whirlwind Hyperios, and I haven't found any other background suggesting when they were introduced, so I figured I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and use them.

@fredmans: well they are pretty well camoflaged at present! Good to see you've made it over to TaccComms as well.

@Man of kent: Cheers. Actually I'm hoping I can get hold of the original - they aren't OOP after all, so it should be possible. Crossed fingers anyway.

@Sorceror: I didn't so much decide as have it forced upon me as it was an ebay win. Just bought it for the head - rarer conical face rather than flat face reaver.

Nice idea, I try and paint my units so that they can be used in multiple armies, doing up my eldar in a non-standard craftworld (Il-Kaithe) so I can use some of the units in a Dark Eldar force. My Luna wolves are done up in a tactical (nod to L4!) grey rather than light grey so I can use them as Space Wolves too.

Keep up the work. Are you going for a digital camo pattern on the blue similar to the old Tempestus colours from Adeptus Titanicus?

No, I decided to ditch the camo pattern, looked a bit too odd to me and detracted from the medieval knight heraldry feel I think works best with Titan colour schemes. You'll notice I kept the quartered shin with b&w checks though, even if only on one leg - its something I'm planning to repeat on all my titans. That pic does make me think about adding some lighning bolt insignia somewhere though.

So how are the Luna Wolves coming along? You planning on posting them online at any point? Would be good to see some more Epic pre-heresy stuff flying around...

Will get a log up asap. Left them alone until I got a supply of long base strips for my tanks. Magister Militum provided a good supply relatively cheaply - £5 for 50 with £3 postage on top. Got 2 packs so 13p a base. Better than GW price!

A couple of updates:

I've painted another Devastator detatchment with a Librarian, painted another two Land Raiders to complete the detatchment, and returned to my first Devastator and Tactical detatchments to add details - i.e. white rims on the specialist marines so they match the rest. Unfortunately my camera is playing up at present, so no pictures of the tactical detatchment or the complete Land Raider detatchment - they will follow once I get it working again, along with a complete army pic. Still, I do at least have pics of the devastators and new Land Raiders. Only two rhinos for the devastator detatchments - as at least one, and probably both, will be loaded into thunderhawks or garrisoning when I use the army and will have to leave their transports behind.

Pretty cruddy pictures I'm afraid, but as I say, camera is playing up.

Long time since I've updated these guys, but finally managed to get a bit more done.

First up, I managed to get hold of a properly operational camera over Christmas, so first off a few pics of previously finished stuff I failed to get decent pictures of before.

My finished Land Raider detatchment:

And a Devastator detatchment with a Librarian-Sorcerer:

I did manage to get some painting done as well. First up, I finished off my Storm Lords Reaver Titan. The base was a tester for how the rest of the armies bases will be finished off - drybrushed up with lighter browns then flock added - and I'm happy enough with it.

Now for some new stuff.

First up, another detatchment of Landspeeders. Great little models, really useful in-game as well. I'll add some more at some point, probably Tornados next time though for a bit of variety. I still haven't managed to master photographing 6mm stuff so the pic is a bit cruddy, ho hum.

Next up, some air support - a couple of Forgeworld Thunderbolts. My first resin models, so I was a little wary approaching them (and had a little problem getting the nose attatched properly on one of them) but in the end I'm quite pleased with them, and they are really nice models. I'm planning on going back and adding some details later - some insignia is definitely required and I'll probably add some scorch marks from the jets as well - but for the moment here they are in their 'factory fresh' condition. The blue-grey with yellow nose is loosely based of a WWII German scheme - I figured the idea of paining a bright yellow nose on what would otherwise be an effectively camoflaged aircraft very Imperium-esque.

The army is reaching a pretty respectable size now, although it still needs some air transport (i,e, Thunderhawks) and a Terminator Detatchment to enable an effective army selection. Still, time for an out of focus army shot? I think so!
