Nice little thread this - a lot of good stuff in it already. I've got a feeling this is going to be a really nice old skool looking force. I always loved those primary colours on these little guys.

Thanks Alf! I have been paint-stripping models and preparing them over the past few weeks. I have painted up a few troops in the classic colors and they are looking good so far. I'm happy with the technique that I am using.

I just have to sort out their basing. I'll take a quick shot of what I've done and post it soon.

Although I have been as sick as a dog for the past few weeks, I have been able to drag my ass out of bed and make headway on my Epic Squats project.

Thanks to the benevolent DoomKitten, I have a whole mess of previously painted Squat infantry now in my possession! Hooray! Before I can get started on them, I have to strip the paint off. I decided to use Super Clean and it has been working like a charm. Take a look!

They look pretty good. There are a few tiny bits of paint that won't will be invisible after priming. I've also stripped some other Epic stuff that I found at my local Nerd Store in their bits box.

That's pretty sweet. I have painted up a few more Squat stands that I'll post up here soon.

One last thing: the people that we meet on the internet can be pretty bad sometimes, and so it is refreshing to meet someone who is genuinely nice and honest. DoomKitten was a great person to do business with. She was prompt with communication and shipping. In addition, she answered a lot of my silly questions about Epic, NetEPIC, Epic Armageddon, etc. I appreciated the time that she took with me. So far it seems like many of you are like DoomKitten: quick with praise and patient with my ignorance. Thank you all again for all of your help.

Looking forward to seeing the super stunties done in suitably refreshed colours soon! I'm glad they've found a good home. :)

DK -

I have been working on things, albeit slowly. In addition, my efforts have been more focused on behind the scenes stuff like stripping... and casting!

That's fresh out of the mold. Once it is trimmed it looks pretty darn good. Hooray for unlimited Exo-Armored Squats!

¿what is the material you used on the mold?

Man I always imagine mold casting as being super difficult, glad you're having joy with it!

Yes, please let us know what mold material you used - that looks fantastic! I need to cast up some figures (including more Exo suits) and that two-piece mold looks really good. If you have any tips to share, that would be great as well!

Abraham - Thanks!

I used Blu-Stuff. You can find it here: http://blu-stuff.com/

I really like it. It cures in 4 minutes. No, that isn't a typo... it actually cures in four minutes! It's kind of magical. ;D

Stormwind - I agree with you. When I first looked at casting I was very, very intimidated. But I knew that someday I'd end up doing it, so I'd read articles here and there just to keep up on the latests materials and techniques.

When I decided that I wanted to make a Squat army, I realized that those Exo-Armored troops were difficult to come by in quantity. I knew that I'd have to look for a proxy (none) or cast. I remembered reading a couple of great articles on FromTheWarp where the author was working on doing some molds and casting. I also remembered that ChickHammer did one as well:

http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011/11/molding-and-casting-shoulderpads.html

http://www.chickhammer.com/2013/02/blu-stuff-is-tru-stuff.html

So I went on Ebay and ordered up some Blu-Stuff! I'm happy with the results so far.

UberChris - Well, the nice thing about the Exo-Armored Squat model is that it lends itself to being a two part mold. It doesn't have any funky curves or whatnot. You can see that if you look at the mold line on the figure, it really is just two parts. So, that's where the edges of your two molds go.

    1. Smush that Squat face down into the Blu-Stuff up to the mold line. Stick a post or two next to him for alignment purposes. Wait four minutes.

    2. Take the second ball of Blu-Stuff and smoosh it on top of the back of the Squat. Wait four minutes.

    3. Pull the two molds apart (Blu-Stuff does not stick to itself, plastic or Greenstuff). Carve a vent on the bottom of the mold for excess Greenstuff to vent.

    4. Grab some Greenstuff and mix it 1/3 Blue and 2/3 Yellow (tradeoff of less stiffness for more detail) and drop a pea-sized blob into the mold. Using the pegs, squish the molds together. Wait 24 hours or so.

    5. Gently pull apart the mold. Trim the flash. Be amazed! Or, if your mold didn't turn out quite right, that's okay, just try again. My first mold sucked because I cast the back first and then the front. That was wrong. Cast the important side first!

I hope that helps. Ask more questions if you'd like!

Great little tutorial - thanks.
I'll have to give it a try sometime with a couple bits i am short of.
Luckily, you probably wont need to cast too many - with the current lists, you'll likely have 1-2 stands max and maybe 3 models per stand.
