Probably past time for me to post an image macro at this point considering how bad we've cocked this thread up ;D

Ok then...moving right along...

I compared the chimera model from these guys side-by-side with the Forge World one. The Trolls one is slightly larger - it's about 2mm longer and a little wider, although height is fairly similar. It might look a little off if you're using them both side by side, but they're still pretty close. I don't have any of the regular GW chimeras on hand but as I recall they were larger than the FW ones too so these could be a close match (I remember the GW ones being really wide too - I like the proportions of these better).

I quite like the look of these, so I'm planning conversions to adapt the other chassis variants. Also hoping the salamanders and griffons I ordered arrive soon...

Useful intel. You are right. The FW vehicles are tiny compared to the GW ones.

Yes, that is old news ... still don't know why GW & FW couldn't get their scale as one ...

It’s fairly common for small-scale games that combine ground and air forces to make the aircraft smaller. For example, Flames of War uses 1/100 for most minis, but 1/144 for the planes. Two reasons: the smaller size gives the illusion that the mini is farther away (i.e. higher up), and planes are really big next to tanks. Possibly big enough to crowd a table. I kind of like it.

FW had its own aircraft game though - no point to scaling things down if they're in their own context.

But I don’t know why FW’s Chimeras were so narrow, or why GW’s were so wide.

Trolls Under the Bridge claims to base their dimensions (*cough*andeverythingelse*cough*) on FW’s 40k models.

GW had two different scale Aircraft then FW's scale ... I literally have 3 different scales of aircraft in my Epic inventory ... :eh Also FW Epic Super Heavy IG tanks are different sizes then the GW. But that is not as bad as the aircraft ...

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how they're getting away with that. Others have done it before, but not quite so...blatantly.

I got a delivery slip yesterday so it looks like my next batch of vehicles from them has arrived - I'll see if I can post a comparison shot soon.

Eastern Europe seems to be a bit of a black hole for that kind of thing!! Not that I'm complaining!

Ok, finally went through the stash and found some comparison fodder

GW Demolisher, Trolls Leman Russ and Forge World Vanquisher in that order.

As you can see, the Trolls and GW are quite close in size - the length is the same, while the Trolls one is slightly taller. Disregarding the sponsons, it's a millimeter or two wider as well but overall they look pretty good even side-by-side. As expected, the FW dimensions are quite different. While not pictured, the Trolls Vanquisher barrel is couple mm longer than FW, but the turret sizes themselves are fairly different.

Actually I'm quite impressed by the Trolls tanks. I think they'll be my go-to Leman Russ model from here on. The detail is good and the casting quality is excellent. The one thing I don't like is the sponsons - to my eye they are too wide and the guns stick out too far to the sides (you can see it clearly on the website image at the start of the thread). That they are cast separate from the hull is an excellent idea and means that my job swapping them out for a narrower option from another source is much easier. Plus, it means that they should find it easy to expand the selection of variants just by adding different turrets and sponsons.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the GW Demolisher is a 4th edition one. The reason I bring that up is that for some reason GW decided to recast their 3rd edition models as a unibody version (previously the tracks were separate from the chassis). The end result was that in 4th edition, the Leman Russ was a tad bit shorter. The differences being about what you see between the GW and Trolls one. Just some random knowledge to chew on...

Thank you very much for the comparison pics.

BTW, what source of sponsons could that be?? (I agree on the ugly look of those).
