Personal suggestion is to not do all 4 companies at once. Do each company at a time. I find that even when painting the same type kind of unit back to back in multiple formations, my style and techniques slightly change/drift between them. That way small differences show up that IMHO provides a small amount of visual differentiation that helps break up the army looking monotonous as a whole. Plus, if you find yourself tired of the same crap over and over you can simply switch to something new and still have the benefit of a completed playable formation instead of 4 not playable ones along the way.
my 2cents :)

Mate,

I second Jimmy, keeps you motivated to do different things. I do a detachment at a time to keep me from going bonkers.

Cheers

@moredakka- Think I've cracked it, spraying them white and then giving them a blue-grey wash, followed by details, then watered down black wash, very similar to your own method!

@Jimmyzimms / CAL001 - Good points, it's only the logistics of getting the airbrush out, cleaning it etc etc that is making me want to do it all at once. I'll probably end up airbrushing them all together then detailing them by detachment.
Also got my eye on your eBay chimeras Jimmyzimms!

Anyway, I'm now going to post what will probably be the most boring entry ever to have graced these forums. I bought a set of 1/285 WW2 German tank transfers, and am trying to figure out the most convincing way to number up all my tanks to represent a Steel Legion regiment. I've taken some liberties, such as changing the amount of companies from 12 to 10, does anyone that is as sad as me have any input into this?

Each of the armoured companies has a 4th specialist squadron, whereas the infantry ones have slots for scouts and griffons / hellhounds.

I am not sure where to shoehorn the Conquerers into yet, either thier own 4th company, or just the last 5 slots of the 4th company, as I would have a commisar conquerer anyway to make the numbers up to 6 (for a legal Epic UK detachment).

Apologies for this unreservedly sad post.

Sure: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/111186996604

I'm sure the GHQ ones will be pretty much the same anyway!

Managed to get a bit more testing done to see how the scheme works on a few different minis.
Also here I've tried out the transfers. I decided on red lined with white to put a bit of colour into the mini, but I'm not so sure. No weathering yet, and I'm not sold on the colour of the lascannon housing yet either.

Added a few units to the excellent Black Legion army I picked up at February’s EpicUK event.

Trying to fill in the last few gaps in my Black Legion army. Decided I need some flyers after my last game against Reedar, which saw me take another beating!

I fired up the laser and ended up with this. It's made from multiple layers of card, which make it look quite flat. I'm gonna add some tubing and weapons to try and '3D' it up a little, and may add in another layer of card in the middle to make it thicker. It's not glued together yet if you're wondering why not all the bits are lined up properly, it's bloody fiddly!
