Well, I finally got around to painting up my Assault Company! The bases could do with another coat, but other than that, they're done.

For all fans of hardcore old-school IG porn, I'll try & post up a new army pic this weekend. Hopefully they'll be of better quality, but I'm too tired to muck about with the camera just now!

Special thanks again to Reedar and Mr Gonzo for doing a trade with me to get this last company for my force, it was very much appreciated indeed!

Oh, and one final footnote, the basing colour for these is different to that of the rest of the IG. That's because I'm going to change all of the bases to this new colour. Goblin Green for proper old-school!

My pleasure Bissler - always nice to see stuff going to a good home and getting used!

Everytime again, mate! :)

Ever thought about giving your whole army a light layer of wash? Black maybe?

I was thinking about putting a wash on them but was worried it would screw up the grey (I've used my Agrax Earthshade wash before on grey and it seems to turn everything brown). Would a black wash avoid this then? Or could my Athonian Camoshade work?

I'm not very good at this business with washes so please forgive my hopelessness!

It'll turn them a steely green. I used that very technique with my guard vehicles. Peep my ToEG 2012 thread for several examples. You can get to it from the first post in my hobby thread.

Nice thread Jimmy, great army indeed! Just to check that I'm picking you up right, use the camoshade very liberally so as I don't turn the tanks green but do pick up the detail?

Yup. I guess consistency of application is key to give the green grey look. Follow up with standard black wash for depth. I like to lightly drybrush the original grey back on to make the highlights stand out

Cheers Jimmy! I will probably try this on one or two stands first. I am very worried that I might trash my whole army!

Yeah its hard on the necromunda style guard. I'd use extreme edge highlights instead of drubrushing in that case
time to invest in some of those Tamiya :)

Haha, could well be! Btw, just in case you thought otherwise, the reason I'm worried about trashing my army is because I am a bit heavy handed with my washes, not because I think your advice is in any way flawed!

Thanks again for helping me out Jimmy!

Interestingly, my local GW have just fb messaged me suggesting that I water down the wash for painting Epic minatures because they are too strong for 6mm.

I took the advice given here and used the black wash which I didn't bother watering down. There's good news and bad news;

The good news is that I think that the Assault troops are much improved! Thanks for the tips again guys!

The bad news... Well, now I'm going to have to slap Nuln oil on the rest of my IG army - and given that the IG now look to have a good chance of featuring in my video battle report, I have four days to get this sorted!

Nothing like an impending deadline to 'motivate' you to get miniatures painted!

:D

The wash has done the job by the way Bissler. You could always apply some small highlights of the original grey colour (as suggested by JZ) now to really make them look cool.

Cheers
Reedar

We'll see... Maybe! [He said with a lack of commitment!] :whistle

Getting on with the wash anyway!
