Just posted up another update on the Blog: "1700 Points: Terminated" (no prizes for guessing the detachment.

Larger photos as well as the next stretch target on my site as usual, but here is the summary.

Image

Terminator detachment with updated Generator and Fuel Dump objectives. Plus my favourite to date; a heritage of Predators alongside a Vox Relay objective.

Image

Had so much fun playing around with the parts and markings on these tanks, especially with the weathering. It has taken a lot of contrast out of the highlighting, but not overly bothered as it has helped give them more of a scale model feel to counter the brightness of the Terminators.

Next stop ... 2500 points.

Have a great week
Carl

Hey Carl,

Nice work as always mate, can you give some construction details mate on the terrain pieces. I see some FW work in the second picture, but what have you added to it and what did you make the first ones from. I am always on the hunt for objective ideas.

Cheers
Aaron

Thanks guys.

The decals are from lots of different sets as I am a bit of a decal hoarder. I don't really ever use the decals for the kit they come with, instead just add them to a big box of decal sheets that has been growing for over 20 years. The ones I used on the Predators come from a mix of 40K tactical and devastator squad kits, bike kits, some Epic 2nd Edition era blisters and the Forgeworld Ultramarine sheet.

The FW sheet is actually quite useful for Epic as it has a number of really small Omega icons. However I wouldn't recommend getting it just for that as it's quite expensive and they only make up a tiny fraction of what's on the sheet. It was more cost effective for me as I am also doing a large number of 40K scale Ultramarines as well.

The Vox Relay objective is a Forgeworld Command Dugout and Pillbox stuck onto some plastic card and filled with ground texturing. The vox tower is (going from memory) the back of a 40K vehicle missile launcher, wheel from a Leman Russ kit, Land Raider sponson mount and the transmitter/rader dishes from the 40K vehicle hatch sprue.

The Generator is an engine exhaust from a metal 40K Thunderhawk (let's pretend I never said that!), a Rhino cupola and hatches with a Epic Hydra radar on top. There is the front of a 40K vehicle missile launcher on the base also.

The fuel dump is part of an Imperator Titans towers with Leman Russ wheels and Space Marine bike 'hub caps'. The barrels are all from an 'N' scale model railway kit.

That is so amazing!

How long does it take you to paint that standard?
For example the Terminators?

Also, would you mind telling me about the infantry bases you're using?
Do they have pre-cut holes?

Thank you. The Terminators took roughly an hour in total, but that was spread over a few nights to allow things like paint to dry etc. I tend to multi-task across a number of units at the same time.

The bases don't have any pre-cut holes. They are just 20mm x 40mm precision cut acrylic from a company called Magister Militum. They are the same bases I used on the vehicles as well and are pretty much standard. If I was replacing them now I would probably just use laser cut MDF instead which are cheaper and less 'slippery'

Regards
Carl

You just gotta love Epic! ^_^

Thanks for the little insight!

Not sure if it's the camera angle but I like how your basing doesn't look "thick" with the figures bases adding to the total height of the base.

I'm loving the Ultramarines so far! Great work and good to see you back painting epic again :)

To MrGonzo - it's perfectly possible to buy bases without holes and then drill them in yourself. That way you can have more varied positions, either randomly or carefully positioning and composing the models on a base to look best together, which is what I do. Personally I use 1.5mm tall laser cut plywood bases and use a wood drill the same size as the holes normally are to drill down into the plywood to make each hole.

True, but then I'd need a wood drill ;)
Totally agree on the advantage of layouting your own bases though!

I don't have a wood drill (it'd be too heavy to carry as an international traveller on a bicycle), I just use a wood drill bit which I twirl around by hand till it gets to the required depth. At a guess I'd say it takes 30-45 seconds a hole.

Good grief, Tuesday already! Here's a couple of Bike Detachments to keep things ticking along. Nothing special, just bog standard units.

Not hanging around sorry, got the bug tonight so getting straight on with some Speeders and a Devastator Detachment.
