Back OT: Yes Warhead, GW brush on varnish will give the effect you are looking for. I would apply a few thin coats to build up a good shine. Wait until each coat has dried completely before applying the next one.

Most people use a Codex Gray to highlight black. It's nice and produces a real satin like finish. I prefer to highlight my black using VGC Somber Gray and VGC Wolf Gray (I think the Citadel equivalents are Shadow and Space Wolf Grays). It's more blue than Codex and in my mind produces a "shine" like effect. If you blend the highlights through to a pure Wolf Gray then it will appear as though it's sort of reflective of light (like latex, pvc wear does). Take a look at how I highlighted my Black Templars to see if that is the effect you want.

Thanks Malakai, I tried out something similar with the blue but it didn't look right so I'll try with the grey and then varnish also for good measure.

Jee, for someone who is a self professed lazy person you sure don't sound it. That sounds hard work.

Thought: (What?.. I do get them!) Who would have thought painting advice would have gotten so many Latex enthusiasts out in the open. Go figure.  

I also suspect the others are keeping quiet as they are too scared to comment.

At Epic scale it's easier to make things look more blended and it's not as hard as it sounds. The thing to remember when highlighting Epic is that the highlights really need to be extreme. So the smaller the model the sharper the highlights should be. At least that's how I feel.

Looking at 40K sized models the Titans have a subtler, more gradual highlight. Going through to tanks then infantry you can see the highlights getting sharper, more extreme. I try and carry that philosophy over to Epic. Besides, I don't think I could blend highlights at Epic scale anyway!

For those that may not have noticed I have tried highlighting with various shades of dark to light grey and then coating in varnish the legings of this Keeper to give it a more wet/reflective PVC/LATEX type of look...
