After the disastrous attack run by the Forge Fire Imperial Naval forces were still on high alert for the tell tale signs of warp in-system translations indicative of another attack. Thus it was a shock to local commanders when auspex returns suddenly detected numerous cruiser level engine flares igniting under full burn originating from under the outer rings of the gas giant, Vectra, far within the patrol cordon. Quickly the trajectory was calculated to be on intercept course with Avalon and the current warzone; Cogitation engines warning that the vector, thrust, and acceleration calculated an 97.687% probability this was a fast planetary assault run under way. The Mars class Battlecruisers His Will and Indomindus quickly plotted an intercept course but even with the gravity assist from Tritus, the Indomidus would only achieve attack solutions 8 minutes and 42 seconds after orbital insertion by the cruisers leaving the 3 Naval escort carriers providing aerospace support for the ground campaign to fend for themselves in the mean time. Such was the surprise when just as suddenly they appeared, Imperial IFF cipher key handshake transmissions were received, authorized, and twice confirmed as the lead ship identified itself as Adeptus Astartes Blood Angel Strike Cruiser, Sangraal and attendant force.
Only after battle stations were rescinded and the marine flotilla consisting of 3 strike cruisers and numerous escorts entered geostationary orbit did Admiral Tolstov note in his operational logs signed and transmitted to crusade command that "while [the marine] presence is welcome I must ask, 'Why now have they chose to show themselves after secreting the force for unknown time within the sensor distorting and dangerous rings of the gas giants? More importantly, my lords I must question, for what purpose'?painters notes:
Nothing really special. Just an old Pre-Heresy cruiser from GrimDarkBits. Sold off my old GW ones to people with greater needs than I during the last days of SG because I had one of these floating around. Figured I should finally get this old guy a few slaps of paint to an acceptable tabletop level. Used Army Painter Dragon Red paint which admittedly is really damn red and covers well but at the same time seems to glow in the dark. I'll probably switch back to VGC Heavy Red and Bloody Red in the future as I like the deeper tones. Perhaps adding purple ink into the mix might work too

I do appreciate the styling similarities to the Chaos Cruisers and the large arrays of flight bays on each side which do allow a certain level of OSL (hard to tell from this angle in retrospect) and fit the theme of a planetary assault craft at the same time I'm not really feeling the love for this either. Meh...
