Making the mini`s base slightly slightly larger than the old ones,
nobody is that stupid.

And why the hell did they do this?

Painting models on those square bases as a PITA.

Indeed thats a reason but why do the new models not fit into the squared bases?
TO BUY MORE NEW STUFF

They also changed the rulesystem(Epic 40K)
because the model prices(double) got so high that you need smaller standard armies.
Epic 40K was born

Dude, the OLD models often didn't fit into the square bases. This was because the holes on the square bases were too damn small.

Still, people didn't like that their entire army suddenly looked "wrong". And of course the huge change to the rules. The latter was for the better in my opinion, but given that people moan incessantly about any new edition of any of their games, they were sure as hell going to be annoyed about Epic 40K even though the box arguably set the bar for production value. I think GW would prove to have a very short memory if they made the same mistakes twice. How much does 40K change from one edition to the next?

I had thought the same about Blood Bowl, pixelgeek, and am half expecting a re-release in some form or other. So long as they don't tinker with it much, I would think it should be a sure seller, no?

I think the box set may depending on whether the rules were different (as they are currently available free online - this has not been the issue with Space Hulk or Dreadfleet).

The uptake of any new minis however may be slim. This could be the reason why it is not done over another sure seller.

Personally I would prefer WH Quest with plastic minis in any scale 32mm and below. :P Even with games such as Descent out, it would be a killer sale for them IMO.

Yes ;D some were difficult to put inside
the newer models do not fit at all though

I am doing my Guard now on old squared bases
I have to rasp every single miniature so that they fit
Its abaout a minute work per miniature
Up to now I have done 240 Guardsmen so I had to afford 240 minutes of extra working :{[]

They still sell the box set for Blood Bowl, what does everyone think they will do so different with it? Promote it for a couple months?

If you want to play SG's who is stopping anyone right now? Do the free rules help that much? Doesn't everyone 'know best' and change them anyway and play the version or house rule they prefer?

The greatest 'favor' GW could do for SG games is allow retailers to sell them openly, and allow game play in the stores. Mail order only is the death knell, but then that is the idea on some level isn't it (not to compete with core)?

I won't be surprised if the 28mm+ SG's get the Finecast treatment, and everything else probably will disappear. It isn't like people buy from them much anyways. In the past year the few things SG I have bought from the site are in the packages that date from the Fanatic era a look like they were on a shelf the whole time, that can't encourage investment.

Guys i wouldnt worry there was a whole hobby before and will continue to be. Remember the guys that floated gw must have been crazy(or were just thinking of the ipo fees), how the hell did a sci fi miniatures manufacturer get floated with no competitors to take over or be overtaken by......its like a miracle that gw is as big as it is. The emperor truly does protect. I remember pre gw in canberra going to the tin soldier buying ugly arsed aztecs and super heavy foot for my army cause thats all they sold.

Now we got he internet and im here in adelaide taking to poms and texans about cad gorgonzolas whats not to think its great. Look ive only come back into the hobby 4 years ago when i got my son into model making. Now i missed the whole gw son of satan thing. Other than looking at outside gw stores in sydney in my suit, saying hey there are alot of long haired young dudes in those shops (probably some of you guys).

Gw is an outlier in a normal world things like that would not have floated would not have got as big etc etc. But full credit to them they did and hey make a 10% profit which when you look at he rest of retail is bloody great.

So they wont use metal anymore some models will be lost a few less guys will pick it up but...the internet has changed everything i could not have thought that i would have been doing this 20 years ago. Any of you remember play by mail wargames...mail man mail. I can tell you before the internet and also a gw rulebook i think it was lotr i didnt know sh.t about painting etc i was like a mushroom. It would not have been possible to find this community.

Sorry for the rant but i cut gw slack cause they shouldnt be here at all.
