Thanks for your input guys! :)
I think you're right C and D are the better so I will go with the white helmets and yellow flak armor.

Ok time for a an update!

I've been home sick today and had two hours of inspiration. I want to start playtesting with squats as soon as possible so instead of waiting to pick up everything I want on ebay, which could take a lot of time, I decided to make a few conversions based on the wonderful dystopian wars range. It feels a bit like blasphemy because I really love the old squat minis. I will have to get them too, but below are what I came up with for my squats to speed up my ability to playtest. I think you can guess what they are :D

They are obviously still very much WIP as there's a lot greenstuff filling needed to be done. There's also the hull-mounted battlecannon on the second warengine left to do and I'm not very happy how the canon turret came out on it. One of the cars is going to get a mortar because I want two of those.

I hope you like them :)

Hi guys!

I was going to do an update with some of the stuff I've painted for my squats. The land train and also a bunch of warriors and rhinos. The problem was that I couldn't find eihter of the two batteries for my wife's camera. I have started working on a side project, which is bad considering I haven't really finished any of the armies in this paintlog. Will show some pictures of it instead.

I have for a while been trying to aquire some hungry beasts off of ebay. Which as, far as the tin models goes, can be done at reasonable prices. All the plastics I've been trying to bid at has gone wildly high. I, for instance, bidded 124£ for an auction of 17 sprues. I wasn't even close. It's ridiculous how high they go. To find a way around this, and just because I've wanted to try moldmaking for a while, I've started project "Täranider".

I've never tried silicone mold-making before, so I see this as primarily a learning experience. I going to try and make a home made "injection-mold".

First attempt, "Sprue as is", I've not added or cut away any parts of the sprue/"pouring channels". This probably will not work, but I wanted to try it before starting to cut the sprue in pieces (actually only have one). Pictures with mobile phone, so not the best quality.

Preparations

Next step mixing and pouring the silicone:
Image

Lessons learned during above step.
Read instructions carefully. When mixing catalyst and silicone don't stir/mix for three minutes because you think you remember that time when instructions says 1 minute.

The silicone was already quite hard when I started pouring and it didn't flow out well. I had to make more for a second pouring, like you can see. It also meant I ended up with a bunch of trapped air bubbles.

Step three Inspection after removing clay:
I have to cut away some small pices here and there like you can see.

A few air bubbles can be seen be seen. I'm not so worried though. I'm not planing on using very many of these, so if I can only use 3 per sprue then that's ok.

Second part of the mold will be made tomorrow.

cheers

Looks promising. And good use of Lego, too. Have you made the second part by now?

Yeah I have made the second mold part and made a first testrun just to see were air would get traped. That showed me that I'm going to have to drill a new hole for the air outlet and injection point.

The mold got a bit damaged though. I forgot to prespray the mold with mold release so some thin parts pf the mold were ripped off.

Another problem that I encountered during the test was that I had some major flash. I couldn't apply a good even pressure because of the back being uneven on the first part of the mold (due to the failed mixing seen in the above picture).

Next step is to start cutting the sprue in smaller pieces and make seperate molds for hormagaunts, termagaunts etc. First resin molds and then I try molds for tin as well.

That's very good to know. Thanks for the info!

Oh sorry. I didn't know it could be interpreted that way, when doing a mold just for my own personal use. I thought that was ok, like recording a movie of off the TV? Like your allowed to do that as long as you only watch it at home...

My sincere appologies for my ignorance CS. I in no way wanted to get bad karma to the this site.

/Erik

Are personal non-profit attempts at mouldmking like this kosher or non-kosher. I have been thinking along these lines myself and was quite interested to see how Borka fared before trying myself.

I gather that it is not the issue of profit making that is an issue but the mere fact of copying their IP, even if for your own use. It is just that more likely to be caught if selling for profit (and that therefore more likely that Grandma Wendy would take action).

Hi again!

Haven't been updating much last few months. When I started working full time in february hobby time got hit pretty bad. Usually get rather tiered in the evening which is my prime painting time. I've done some small stuff for the armies though so I thought it time to make an update.

My squats have seen a little more work. I've finished the train for them and it looks like this:

The whole train

I have also almost finished a warrior formation still need to do 2 more warrior stands and finish the lord unit to complete the formation.

front and back

The formation will come with thunderer upgrade, sadly I forgot to take a frontal picture.

Yellow backs

Now to something completely different. I'm bad at finishing my projects always starting new ones and now it's time for another project. Haven't thought about it before but It seems to me that I like to play armies that are little different and not mainstay. I've done Necrons and Tau, which both play different to all other NetEA armies. I also, like you know who followed this paintlog, want to make a tyranid army at some point.

I've had my eyes on Dark Eldar for quite some time, thinking that they look like a lot of fun to play. I do think they will play a lot different compared to most other armies and even to ordinary eldar. I however don't feel like playing such an evil race, but I have come up with a solution. I'm going to start converting an eldar corsair army, but I will be using the Dark Eldar list to represent them.

Fluffaters read on, other can skip ahead to next picture :)
Code:
The theme would be a corsiar band led by a corsair prince. The prince was born on a craftworld think I'll go with ulthwe. During his training as a warlock he came to a schism with his tutors over what he perceived as lack of action. Embittered he went away from the craftworld and chose the path of the outcast.

After living as a ranger and corsair he fell pray to ambition and went to the dark city. He was due to his martial prowess able to join a Kabal of commoragh (which would explain how he learned Dark Eldar tactics). Ricing steadily in the ranks during a few hundred years in the city. He eventually saw the folly of personal ambition after losing a son to the intrigues of the Kabal and the fall of the Archon he had chosen to serve.

Tired and sickened of what his race had become in the Dark City after the fall, he pledge to serve his race instead of his own personal gain. He could not return to his craftworld however after his many years in commoragh, they refused him and said he was tainted from his stay in the city.

With a few followers from his time as a corsair and even some from commoragh he chose to start a new corsair force. The intent was to be not mere pirates but to try and restore the glory of the eldar empire wherever they could. Young eldar from many craftworlds not content with the policies of their craftworld leaders, wanting more action against the upstart races that had have claimed so much of what used to be eldar space, soon joined the group as their reputation grew.

After 300 hundred years the band is stronger than ever and have supported several large scale actions of craftworlds against the lesser races of the galaxy. At the present date they are one of the strongest corsair bands, but of course lacking the manpower and resources of a craftworld. This has made the corsair prince employ the tactics used by the dark eldar realizing they need to hit with lightning speed and hit hard as they cannot sustain big losses.

I want the army to not have a uniform look as they are a corsair band where the members come from many different backgrounds and craftworlds. I have therefore chosen to mix different eldar miniatures. Below are warrior, I have used the guardian models but also added dire avenger and fire dragon miniatures which will explain the somewhat better CC stat and shooting attack compared to guardians.

here are my first two units + a unit of reaveres
Image

I've also started on a Kabal Coterie formation which will have my Corsair prince in it (Archon). They (incubi) will represent his best warriors which after many raids and campaigns have become expert warriors.

For them I've used striking scorpions, dark reapers as the base. I actually wanted to use only converted Dark reaper models, but lacking enough of those I also used the scorpions.

3 incubi with Corsair Prince (dracon/archon) unit in the middle.
Image

That was all for know. Have vacation now and am going away for some time so probably will not update in a while. Am also waiting for more eldar stuff to arrive before I can start to convert raiders, ravagers and more infantry.

cheers
