Here's a link of some Slammer Support AFVs including an Engineering AFV ...Slammer Engineering AFV

I'm not to impressed with those hammers vehicles, they look nothing like the far more modern designs I'd imagined from the book, those things put me in mind of shermans and m60's. Though in retrospect it wouldn't surprise me if the author was describing those things!

Except TRC ... Drake Approved the designs ...  8v)   After a number of models were rejected ...   :p   :vD  So those are what he was thinking while writing Slammer lore ...    Dave on O/C Slammer AFVs ...   :vD

Of course, it struck me whilst I was writing, he would have been familar with m60's and similar, not todays (or even back then european) MBTs with their focus on massive survivability vis a vie other nations designs (saying that even Russian style tanks are going for more protection these days, largely int he context of anti insurgency supremecy operations). Especially his open car design which gives a better fighting platform but higher casualties (fine for merc's, not acceptable to todays US military so witness the ever more armoured coin vehicles being produced in the US).

Yes, he based the M9 CBT CAR on the M113 ACAV(ah ... my Beloved M113 !) ... The 11th ACR in which he served in, the ACAV was one of their most numerous AFVs in the TO&E.  The MBTs in the 11th at that time were M48s ...  And as we know the M113 was not renowned for it's survivability ...

Yes I was shocked by 'my Beloved M113 !)' until I got to 'And as we know the M113 was not renowned for it's survivability' and realised you must be exercising your irony :)

Ironically the Rhino is awful in Epic as well :)

The Trojan looks great ; I'm still not a fan of the slab-sides. :(

The slab sides make it look 'heavy'.

To me that fits in with the 40k Imperium quite well - excellent tech, poor know how. So whereas tanks today if you load them down have powerplant, transmission and suspension problems (there is a great pic online of General Patton giving a dressing down to a US sherman tank commander so covering the tank with sandbags as it wore the poor things out rather fast), 40k gear is far advanced, but poorly employed. You can no doubt load them down immeasurably more as the gear is built for colonists, so it makes sense than rather than having proper composite plate they just weld more metal on (rather than have a fast low vehicle they end up with the clanking beasts they have).

I've always wondered what sort of ground pressure a russ would exert, especially considering their tiny skinny tracks....

Coming on well :agree:

Where would you imagine the engines would be in your design btw? According to FW’s Imperial Armour Chimera based vehicles’ “twin engines are housed in the track sponsons on either side of the main hull, from where they provide power directly to the wheels,â€Â

Yeah, maybe I'll add some vents. And bring in the slabs a little bit.

If any of you guys can find an alternative Chimera design, or some other IG design idiom I'll entertain it. I've simply had my fill of the current design.

Well FWs Trojan is based on the Leman Russ hull not on the Chimera's

^ I think that's the Atlas you're thinking of. The Trojan is clearly based on the Chimera.
