At 6mm and 10mm have you ever tried using Windsor and Newton Nut Brown ink? Its army painter for the small scales ;)

Great stuff all around!

I, too, use the Vallejo pumice basing stuff. I follow a different route, the grey pumice is thicker and easier to control so I use that before I do any undercoating or basing, and then everything gets undercoated black. Then I paint the base first and the model last.

I use the Desert Sand paste for terrain at the minute.

Is it really? Hmmm... I'll have to look into that. Is that what you use when you paint? I'd love to see some examples.

Yep, I'm going with the middle one. It is a good result and I think that the figures will pop nicely on the table.

By the way, your Tyranid army is excellent! You have a very clean painting style. It's nice!

it is nothing on your level of detail xD
Mine are easier I think, I've been painting Tyranids since I was 12 so I feel confortable with them xDD

I wish to see how you start paintig your troops, and all the vehicles as well! ¿Have you thought how you'll do them?

Ill see if I can dig out some before and after examples of Nut Brown wash. You just use it at the end as a floodwash. As it is very 'watery' its flows into nooks and crannies really well. I find GW washes can darken the figure a fair amount, I think they realy come into their own however when you hit 15mm as you get a more graduated shading.
One option I have used for basing is the Valejo grey pummice - add half a pot of your favourite brown and you get a great consistency and basecoat in one.

Legion 4, those are some nice looking Space Dwarves. Well done!

As a short-bearded new Squat Warlord, I am especially jealous of all of your Exo-Armored troops. I need to order some Blu-Stuff and start casting. Ha ha!

Abraham -

Yes, I have been thinking about how I am going to paint the vehicles. They won't need to be done like the infantry because they are much larger. I will probably go with a dark base color, a few thin coats of mid tone, a pin wash and then two passes of edge highlighting. That is the general plan. But... we'll see! Things change.

I don't want to fall into the trap of taking forever on any one single model. I must move forward with my army. There are poncy Eldar to thump and vile Chaos creatures to bludgeon.

yeah, I feel the same way, and the cool thing about epic is that you can paint them really really fast, and finish one project and start a new one in pretty few time (a fraction of what it would take in 40.000) and do "mini-dioaramas" on a lot of bases for little money! XD)

I want to see what do you end up doing! :)

Many Thanks SquadPainter ! I used these Exodus Wars Dreads as Armored Hearthguard for one of my Squat forces ... in WWI German camo. Seen in pics 1 & 3.
Exodus Wars will be re-releasing they original lines later this year ... They also make Khazari, which are "cousins" to the Squats. I use them in my Squats as well. Some in the pic 2 and others ...

I also preferred the middle squat infantry model, BTW.

On washes, I usually use GW washes thinned down a bit with medium or water and little bit of dish washing soap. Those Windsor and Newton washes do sound great, though!

The middle Squat seems to have won the day handily. I just did ten more last night in that style and they turned out pretty well. My Squat Guild has begun. Like their ancestors, my force will have a Book of Grudges.

With the exception of Army Painter Quickshade, I have never been too lucky with washes that cover the entire figure. I know that others have had success, but for me the only thing that happens is that the colors get dull and muddy. The only exception is Nuln Oil on silver... that makes musket barrels look fantastic.

That said, I am curious to see how the WN Nut Brown ink works.

That is very good news! I was sad to see that they had disappeared and I poked around a bit to see if there were any models that I wanted that were easily obtainable. And there weren't.

I have a whole mess of infantry to paint right now, but I will be wanting some command units. I am going to cast some, but maybe I should intersperse some Exodus Dreads in there too. Thanks for the tip!

Nice little thread this - a lot of good stuff in it already. I've got a feeling this is going to be a really nice old skool looking force. I always loved those primary colours on these little guys.
