I've been slacking in the picture department but there's been slow progress. The hair, jeans, and black and brown leather is done, plus I've started on the red. I'm hoping to finish the red over the weekend, after that it's onto the metal and weapons. It'll be tight but I think it's all doable. I did drop the Juves from the table, however. If going gets tough I can drop the Bolter Leader and Heavy Bolter Heavy too.

The base I'll be using in there as well. I wasn't 100% on the plasticard ones I cast up so this is plan B. It's a Renedra 25mm with a Litko magnetic bottom. I sprayed it with some textured paint I got at Michaels, washed it black, drybrushed on a tan, stippled a red and then drybrushed white. I was going for asphalt. Close?

These are really coming along well, that red really stands out.

Ya, a wash and some dragon red layers ought to help. It's still going to be a decent amount of contrast though.

Not by a mile :P

Actually, the base looks pretty good. But, I think of asphalt as kind of an oily smooth, very dark grey. The surface would be mostly very smooth or even flat, punctuated by some cracks. The highlights are a bit strong for that look. Could be the picture/lighting.

Oh, and get these guys done and move on to some 6mm stuff already. I'm tired of looking at them across the table on painting night. I'd even rather look at another Man o' War fleet instead :P

They weren't 100% finished for Adepticon but they were pretty close. I finished up six of the gangers tonight, taking care of the touch-ups and a few final highlights. I went very light on the gun highlights, just to see how it would work.

Image

The biggest things left at this point are to get the Juves, Heavy Bolter and other leader to the same point as the rest of the gang. I'll likely work on them on and off over the next couple of months. For the time being it'll be back to Epic.

I finished up the Orlocks I played with at Adepticon this past week (next post will be 6mm, promise!). My Juves, Heavy Bolter and second leader will be benched until I circle back around again. I'm pretty happy with how these came out. At somepoint I might try to paint some road lines on the bases, we'll see how that goes.

Image

I tried my hand at weathering (?) the end of the flamer as per an old Citadel painting book. Not sure on it yet.

Image

There was no detail on the rope tied to the top of the pack, so I had to freehand the highlights. I think it works out pretty week for you're everyday, run-of-the-mill rope.

Image

The rest of the gangers are below. Only two of them are new from last week but I forgot which ones they were when I was taking the pictures. :P

Finally, here's a shot of what's left to paint. The leader's nearly there but the Heavy's going to need some work and putty, while the Juves just paint.

Lovem, especially the red sash, red is my most hated color to paint as i find it hard to highlight properly. Did you use orange on your red for the final highlight?

Nice contrast on the reds, and I too love the stubble.

Thanks guys.

@bh, the red was the Mechrite Red foundation and then the rest were Army Painter bottles, in order: red wash, Dragon Red, Pure Red, Pure Red/Bright Orange, Bright Orange, red wash. At least that's how I remember it anyway. There might have been some additional mixing in there.

Classic looking Orlocks. Great work.

So getting back to something approaching 6mm (terrain) I found this at Home Depot last weekend for $10:

Image

It's pretty much white rubber spray, but it's not meant to be pealed off like the other stuff I've seen.

I used to get my mats from theterrainguy.com, but he's since closed up shop and even before that he stopped making a snow mat before I could pick one up. Given that, I'm going to try this stuff out to make my own. To wit, the plan is:

1) Spray down a coat of this stuff on a vinyl mat and let dry
2) Spray again, sprinkle some tan flock and then cover it in snow flock
3) Once dry, shake the excess off

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried this before? I'm going to start off by trying it on some small scatter pieces for forests.
