Exactly the thing... Actually that gives me an idea for a commander conversion...
CC: Those VTOLS look great. I particularly like the first one. What manufacturer was that again? GZG?
Using BFG rules would probably work pretty well though I suspect some of the game mechanics would be a bit more suited for larger scale capital ships rather than small patrol boats (torpedo salvoes in particular). Still it would be fun to try.
Heresiarch: I saw that model first time around but wasn't too sure however the more I think about it the more I like it.
Cheers! :)

The Vtol can be found here from Ral Partha Europe
Online store
When playing river boats you just have to change the "scale."
For example instead of launching a torpedo salvo you just launch one torpedo. Maybe a PT boat can launch two in a turn. Each AA gun, like twin machine guns, or heavy bolters, would be like a turret in BFG. Except they can't shoot down watre torpedoes.
Instead of squadron of fighters and bombers it's just one plane, with the same stats and rules.
Guns like autocannons, heavy bolters, big shotas, motars are countes as weapon batteries. While weapons like lascannons, battlecannons, missile launchers count as lances.
There would be no shields unless you want them.
You can even have assault boats, this is represented by small boarding teams on little high speed rubber boats. No Teleportation.
This can be great fun. I may have to look into it.

Well good luck with the project

I saw Apocalypse Now, Redux at the Imax (6 story screen, 15,000 watts of sound) on September 10th, 2001 after being at an outdoor music fesitval for 3 day with no sleep...
"I can't dance to this... it's all wrong! It's the napalm sir!!!"
All I can remember is thinking to myself during the air-cav attack is that if my seat had been vibrating I would have been in the helicopter... *bad* mojo kids...
And to this day I still don't understand why the cut the surf-board stealing scene from the original print...
At any rate though WMN... the LVTP5s actually aren't that bad as proxies for epic... look and size wise...

Cool idea!
The riverfleet battles seem a cool idea. I really like the patrol boat from GHG (posted by Warmaster Nice in his first post). But yeah, BFG mechanics seem a bit to harsh for those little ships.
Maybe add some simple ship mechanics for use in E:A. Support from a contested river and such. Or so...

Its a ncie idea, but those things are toast if they get hit, as opposed to giant capital ships in space. Superheavies are bigger.
Unless you specifically want to do some riverine battles (in which case I Can recommend some good rules. Hmmm....Zippo Boats!), I'd just give them som EA stats and crack on buddy
