My ambitious plans:
-Single Unit: Squad of custom sculpted and resin-cast genestealers.
-Open: Deathwatch Space Marine (based on the Artemis model from Inquisitor) fighting off one of said 'Stealers with his sword while running past it and firing his bolter.
On the side, possibly another "open" piece: Eldar Ranger loosely based on the Inquisitor one.
Got to work on them (and some other projects, none of which got finished - maybe I should just focus on one at a time...) in September, during summer's break from University, working on and off due to having had some work to do for my studies, meeting old friends again, getting back into physical shape, cleaning up a fair part of the house etc. Unfortunately, I didn't really stick to one thing at a time but did one weapon here, one leg there, ...well you see where I'm going. Still, I think I could have made it (finished at least one or two of the above mentioned pieces) if the holidays had been just 2 weeks longer. But when University kicked back in I had to give up. It's not like I had absolutely no time left at all, but what I had was generally just a hour or so in the evening and I don't like breaking out my modelling stuff unless I have at least 3 or 4 hours at a time. So this is how far I got:
Genestealers: Sculpted: Body, arms and legs in various stages of completion. No head, no base. Nothing cast, nothing painted.
Marine: Sculpted: Torso mostly finished, sword mostly finished, bolter very much done, as are the legs . Basic shapes of arms and backpack. No head. No base. Nothing cast, nothing painted.
Eldar: Sculpted: Basic body (legs+torso) 70 % finished, mostly the outer robes and some detail missing. Swordarm close to done. Rifle armature finished. That's it, no head, no base, no left arm. Obviously nothing cast or painted here, either.
My other projects included a Tau water caste + drone (<50 % :-(), several custom made imperial soldiers (I think I pretty much finished the *armatures* and got to work on the rifles :-(() and a new style Terminator (don't mention it :-(((. Did the head, found it too big, did some armatures, that's it.)
So, despite having had two and a half months at a time where I could have spent roughly *half* of my time sculpting I didn't finish one single thing.
Lesson to learn from this? => Do *one* thing at a time, focus on it and *finish* it.
So maybe for next years competition...
