I like to paint tracks with a metallic color (old Ral Partha gunmetal now available from Ironwinds) and then drybrush with a light brown for the muddy effect.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

O.K. just for the record, after being assigned to 3 Mech Bns and attached to a Tank Bn, an AFV track consists of two parts: ?

1. The shoe (metal) and...

2. The pad (rubber). ?

On Epic scale this is not really noticable. Tracks are black, so lightly dry brushing black with a steel color is pretty close. Or painting them steel and giving them a heavy wash of black. I usually do a little of both. Plus a little rust or mud wash wouldn't hurt either. ?

Just another one of my pompus opinions! :;):

Yep, that is why I suggested:

Another idea is to do a dark grey on the tracks then do a dry brush of Graveyard Earth and then a very light dry brush of Boltgun Metal. That way the tracks do not look too clean and new (black at this scale is very stark) and the metal that does show is darker and looks more like metal peeping through the road dust/dirt/grime.

What I have found is pure black is too harsh at this scale, but a very dark grey, followed by a brown dry brush, followed by a very light dry brush of a dark metalic color seems to work.

Must admit, I seem to have issues with washes. They do not seem to like me.  :L

I always use washes, but sometimes I have to play with them a bit to get the look I want ...
