The flakwagon looks scary! Would fit well in a Blood Axe army.

Hi all,

Thanks for replies guys, I've always had a thing for Orks in all GW games and I think it is the "konvershun" loving nature that appeals to me (especially when it's plastic and easy to do).

Also, after taking a look through the massive piles of old Epic plastics I have, I may indulge myself in painting up an extra thousand points of old Rhinos, etc as a Blood Axe component to this ork army, then the flakwagons can be reintroduced (and my Stormboyz! They've been useless so far, so I dropped them from this current army list). That'll give me an opportunity for a bitz box raid too, and give some of my old models a purpose again. Although I think that idea will have to be added to the end of the lengthening list of things I have to paint! }:)

@ Warmaster Nice: (Un)fortunately when I ordered a big batch of FW gunwagons, a large number of them were of such poor quality casting and had broken parts, that sacrificing them didn't seem a problem (they did send me an extra pack of them though ?:) ) The rest went into the current ork force and became test pieces for colour schemes.

Painted up the first of my flakwagons today. Looks ok, but I'm a bit worried that the SG flakwagons are gonna look tiny next to it. Anyway, for your perusal...

Flakwagon

I also made another from a Hydra gun turret and a bowelburna chassis, but a swift fumble whilst painting turned it from a flakwagon to a gunwagon. ?:{ ?Oh well, I need them too, so no worries. It actually looks pretty cool now though. I also used another bowelbuna chassis with a bonecruncha turret for a second gunwagon.

Extreme Gunwagonz

Enjoy. ?:p

PS: I also ordered a whole load of terrain and some TSS desert boards to create my own table (finally!), so I may start work on a few pieces of army specific terrain soon too. The idea machine is going up a gear. ?}:)

Update - 6/4/04

After staring at some unbased Orks for weeks, with no motivation to glue and sand them, I finally did yesterday whilst watching some DVDs.

Big Ork Warband

And the first unit from my secret(ish) project is finally made and painted. Although I'm not 100% happy with the flame paintjob, I present...

Burna Boyz

With most of the remaining units for both my Ork and Imperial Fists armies pretty much finished, I'm just awaiting my order of Warmaster Bases and I should have two 2700 point armies ready for battle.

Bit off topic this, but whilst looking around some military history websites for inspiration, I came across these. Possibly the most Orky ideas I've ever seen. :) Enjoy!

Early Warbike?

Fighta-Bomma

um...er...I give up.

Other than that, my latest supplies have arrived, so I will be basing up the rest of my vehicles shortly. I've also started to paint some Ork dreads and Fighta-Bommas, so I should have some nice pics of them soon.

Being a closet historian, I've seen these pics before ... G/W-F/W routinely "takes" ideas from historical sources ... mostly WWII German.  Look up "Kettenkrad"  ... the original Warbike !  :;):  Plus there are many IG-Nazi interfaces ...      :D

Hi!

Same here, seen them, but ages ago. Goes to show that sometimes real ideas are as bizarre as game related ones.  :)

Woohoo! Won eleven sprues full of Epic 40k era Orks on Ebay yesterday that (if the buggers turn up) will give me eleven more stompas, 33 bikes, 33 boars and a whole load of other orky stuff to fill out my army and to use for conversions, etc. (?26 - I think I got a good deal ??? )

On the painting front I have finished this week...
3 Stompas, 2 Dreads, 2 Kans, 3 Gunwagons, 3 Warbuggies, 2 Skorchas, 3 Fighta Bommas and the last of the Imperial Fist Rhinos. This only leaves a handful of metal sat unpainted on my shelf, but every time I look at it, I'm really not motivated to paint it. (Need inspiration!) I'll try to get some pics up within the next few days when the last of the KOS buggies are painted.

I've also decided to paint all the leftover space marine minis I have as Crimson Fists to produce a small army to suppliment my Imp. Fists too (I'm getting sick of painting yellow again), which should hopefully save me gathering a heap of useless minis.

PS: Anyone have any thoughts on what I could use two Mk1 Thunderhawks for? (they're the small SM2 era ones) I thought possibly command/recon units, but would like your thoughts. :)

PPS: Could anyone direct me to which issue of WD contains the Index Astartes section about the Imp. Fists? (or if anyone has the power, scan it and email it to me. :L )

Cheers

Imperial Fists are in WD259.

As for the "Flying Brick" pattern Tuhderhawks, with little konvershun these would be very Orky vehicles; just add wheels!  Or tracks. :)

Hi,

Finally got hold of my Ebay "win of the century" today. And it's better than I had first thought. Since I had skipped Epic 40k in my Epic playing (SM2 was my last Epic outing), I didn't realise exactly what was on every sprue I had won. I figured it would all be useful, but was surprised how ideal this sprues would be for my Ork army.

I won...

33 Bikes
33 Boarboyz
11 Shokk Attack Gunz
11 Stompas
11 Warlords
11 Standard Bearers
11 Weirdboyz
11 Mekboyz
11 Mad Dokz
11 Runtherds
121 Nobz
55 Shoulder mounted Big gunz
55 Stormboyz
55 Kommandos
165 Grotz
504 Boyz
44 Boyz w/rocket launchers
148 bases
& 37 ruin sprues (woohoo!)

Not bad for ?26. ?:p ?Think I might be able to get a load of Feral Ork stuff out of that after I take out what I need for my current orks.

On the painting front I've not done that much lately. Finished off the details on pretty much all of the minis I've painted (both Orks and IF), and undercoated some bitz and pieces, but nothing new. I'm also slowly reconstructing the Epic section of my website, so I will get new pics of everything (with my new scenery) within a few weeks as it is updated.

@Mojarn: Thanks for that WD number, I've managed to get hold of it now. :) AND I've begun to convert my 'flying brick' to the most awesome Ork gunwagon EVER. ?:O ?Think it'll only really work with Blood Axes but it's still cool.
