The forum outage allowed me to finish off this project (well kinda - I completed it today). This version of the software lets us post clickable thumbnails - just click to enlarge.
I forgot to take some shots of some stages, but here is what I did take:
I added another coat of clear blue to the shins, and then applied a wash to the armour recesses.

I went over the gravel with move PVA, which made it clump up as well as stick a little more firmly. I basecoated it in codex grey and gave it a white drybrush.

I removed the connecting pin from the bottom of the missile launcher, and built up a magnet housing to replace it. I fitted magnets to the insides of the weapon mounts on the torso.

I flocked the base, and then glue the legs and feet in place. The hip joint is pinned, but the knee is just glued.

The front of the carapace was slightly miscast, and as I was wondering how to fix it, I came across a large bubble right under the eagle. I had been considering replacing it with one of the FW brass ones, but the I thought that bubble made removing the existing one too risky. I decided to leave the eagle in place, and try to fix the front carapace only. I filed down the edges and front of the top, and replaced the front with some thin plastic sheet.

Some sanding and filling later.....well it's not perfect, but it's good enough:

The body was given an undercoat of primer followed by boltgunmetal and then 2 coats of clear blue:

The same method was applied to the gatling blaster and the powerfist, followed by a druybrush of boltgunmetal over the black basecoat. I went back and re-did the drybrush more subtly after taking these photos:

The head was basecoated black, then painted up with red and boltgunmetal. The eyes were painted with transparent yellow over boltgunmetal.

I went over the carapace with boltgunmetal to pick out the details, and then went back and drew the panel lines with gundam marker.

the only thing left to do was the final assembly, and to finish off with some banners etc stolen from various space marine kits.
