I have no idea if it illegal but I hope that at this forum we have people that can make this point clear.
IMHO that for personal use it is OK.

Those are wonderful. If they were ever case I can see every epic player here wanting an army of those. Great workmanship, I can't wait to see more.

I agree with CS: Publically casting and selling these to other forum members would be illegal. TacComms cannot support open infringement of IP.

I am curious as to how inexpensively something like that would be to mold and cast in metal.  Just hypothetically speaking there would be a big market for such models (relative to the Epic market of course).  I ran a somewhat related poll a while back and the feedback was pretty conclusive.

So if you manage to create a mold for yourself could you share information on how much it cost for you to do it please?

The issue isn't so much the name as the physical apearance. I've seen a number of very interesting 28m models sold on ebay (including a huge bipedal robot with a church in it's back) that quickly dissapeared again. Obviouslt someone at GW's legal department weren't too happy about them selling stuff that looked suspiciously like GW IP.

The trick is how generic a miniature is. For example there's no real issue in selling 6mm human infantry, space dwarves, insectoid aliens etc.
Granted: GW definitely had a good look at the Terminator movies when they designed the Chaos Androids that were to become Necrons. GW haven't been shy to nick a good idea when they saw it, but they've been extremely zealous in protecting those designs after making them their own.

I'm not completely sure just how generic "space skeletons" or "Androids" would be. There can certainly not be any IP issues with the skeletal form itself. However if the weapons look suspiciously like GW's IP Necron weapons there might be a problem.



As for casting: You might want to PM Tom (netepic) from EW or Doug (darkone) from DRM who may have some good advice on skilled miniature casting companies. They might be able to give you a price quote for a limited run of miniatures in a spin caster.
