Very nice Levinas - the Warmaster bases work ok, and leave space for adding interesting stuff too, if you have the time. :) :) :)

I've come to the conclusion that I may just be the slowest painter in the world -- two hours of painting and I've just about got the base colour down on the Shadowswords! Here's a pic that demonstrates this rather shameful lack of progress:

I'm not entirely happy with the look at the moment but hopefully when I get them weathered they'll look better. It'll certainly cover over any rougher areas in the paint job. That said, I might throw a very thin wash over the whole thing to smooth it out little.

Is it just me or is there always a 'messy stage' with painting before something decent emerges?

Yeah, that often happens to me, too. And don't feel so bad about your painting speed. I'm not too speedy either.

I can't help but notice that your sponsons are missing their las-cannons. Have they broken off?

Shadowswords don't have Lascannons on their sponsons.

They are replaced by 'targetters', which in 40k give the tank an improved Ballistic Skill (And which apparently give the Shadowsword 2+ to hit in Epic!).

Shh! I was trying to get Levinas to buy my steel-reinforced lascanon sponsons!

Bah! I wasn't going to fall for that! That said, I've had all manner of missing guns on my FW chimeras. Today a replacement hull arrived without all of its lasguns and is due for re-replacement asap. So it looks like the mechanised infantry will be walking to the front...

One of these shadowswords has a scratchbuilt engine exhaust on the back after arriving with some kind of moulding error and one of my GW Leman Russ tanks has a steel reinforced lascannon after I snapped off its banana-shaped gun when I tried to straighten it. A bit of paperclip and gs action and I can't tell which one it was. But those Chimera lasguns are just too thin for me to fix.

Clever devil!

Goofed-up SH rear ends are common, evidently, based on hearsay on Tactical Command.

Too bad the design idiom for a lascannon is "long, thin, fragile stick with convenient break-off handle". I'm tempted to design and cast a lascannon repair kit. But I have enough projects, so someone else will have to do that one.

Is is a point after the wash were it's almost a return to primer. ?

I use a black wash for my green armies. ?

But then it comes out again.

Well tonight I've not managed to get going on the tanks but, determined to get something done I've built up my stormtrooper bases so the army has progressed a little. I've also had a mess around with my camera to try and get pictures that look a bit better by trying out some of the manual settings. Here's the first attempt at a Leman Russ pic:

I think it looks a bit better than the first ones (who would have guessed this would turn into a photography blog!) but maybe a little over exposed...

For some reason that made me smile. The phrase 'damning with faint praise' springs to mind!  :D

Tonight, if all goes well. Shadowsword tank no. 1 will be completed. I've decided to ditch batch painting to try and get myself motivated.

Looking very good indeed can't wait to meet them in battle?
as for the chimera las cannons i opted for the heavy bolter version as i think they are a bit more study
