And now for some terrain. Actually you have seen this already, since it was my Epicomp entry. But this time you get to see few better pictures. My biggest terrain project so far, a snowy hill with trenches. Made from 5cm thick polystyrene foam. I had quite a lot of problems getting the trenches shallow enough, few of them ended up too deep, so I had to partly fill them with some filler putty. Another problem with a round hill like this one is planning the trench layout wisely. Normally we would want to have a killing zone in the middle, where the enemies are under fire from three directions. Now the trenches are on a hill in a curved formation, and the middle part is in danger of becoming under fire from two directions. But the guardsmen will have to deal with it...

General view of Hill 522. The destroyed Ork tank became a bit too dark for my tastes.

Dug in shelter constructed from logs. This one could house about a platoon or two. The rest have to sleep in vehicles or tents. Or maybe build some igloos.

View from another direction, note the diagonally built connection trench.

Closer to the tank. A nasty hit to the side has blown parts of the skirtplates away, and caused an explosion inside the tank, blowing turret off. The turret is resting upside down on snow. Judging from the blast marks on the snow, it took quite much attention, before finally getting hit.

Trenches have supporting planks only on the front side, if the men stay there long enough, they might add wood to the rear wall and even on the ground. Without wooden reinforcements, the guardsmen will have to dig the trenches open a bit after nastier bombardments, as the blasts collapse the walls and throw snow in there.
All in all, I am content with this project. What it lacked in painting, it made up in structure and originality.
I already have some stuff in painting, expect an update in a week or two.
