Thanks for the link to the article, Dobbsy. Interestingly GW UK mark up their postage to OZ and charge 10% GST despite the Australian Government exempting on line purchases from GST provided the total is not more than $1,000 Australian. I wonder where the 10% ends up. I have raised this with them (GW) but surprise, surprise no answer. I was tempted to write to the Australian Govt but decided to let it go because they would only find another way to force us to buy from their OZ stores . There is no excuse for not allowing the higher australian dollar to flow through to the OZ prices.

Interestingly, the article on GW's site about Finecast does make it seem like they have made new moulds from the master models rather than reusing the old ones with resin.

They are new moulds, they have sprued up the models ive seen to have ~3 components on a resin sprue. The key concern atm is cast quality, there are numerous reports of poor casts, even the promo pictures on the GW website have visable bubbles.

This thread shows an unboxing of a GW resin model, check out the miscast stormbolter...

Interesting. Definite remoulding, which does explain the price rise a little more, even if it's still extortionate.

What are the epic implications of this, I wonder. Apparently the material is very soft, but also very flexible.

I read (Ill try to find where it was, cant remember the source) that SG stuff will not be converted to resin and will remain available in metal. Dont hold me on this, ill check the source if I can.

Found it:

"For what it's worth I called customer service a few weeks ago and asked if the warmaster line was being discontinued with the stoppage of metal figure production. The rep said that it would not be a problem and that warmaster would be unaffected by the changeover to resin. "

Now that it's been officially announced, it might be a good time for E&C to fire off another email to Jervis.

I did that, no reply yet.

As he said in his last email to me, he may still feel that he can't comment on future plans without breaking the studio NDA.

Something about that strikes me as weird, from a cost-effective point of view.

I heard pretty much the same thing from my local store owner with regards to the SG ranges.

If the suggestion the SGs are safe bears out then that's a relief!

I'm assuming the prices will still rise by a similar amount to those announced for the other ranges though? If so then now would be a good time to make purchases you've been holding back on, unless you specifically want resin for it's lightness or ability to stay-together.

I seem to remember it was specific stuff that was going up battleforces/battalions/starter sets & some box sets. Nothing said about SG at all really.

If they really are melting all the worlds metal GW models to use as material for SG stuff, I wonder how long it'll last. This is all just speculation based on some word from various posters on Warseer e.t.c. I don't think anyone knows the full story...

All the metal will be sold back to the metal companies and GW will soon be metal free. What is being talked about here is a possible switch to resin for the SGs. They haven't publicised price rises for them, but then the only way we know about the other price rises in through lists of them supplied to independent stockists and SGs aren't normally supplied to them or on such lists.

Yes that's true, but amongst the rumours over on WS there is talk of using the recalled metal from all the other blisters for SG stuff.

have talked to GW´s customer service germany today
here is what they said:
- do not panic SG products are still available the next time
- if SG will be stopped or switched to resin
they will write down a note on thier website
- a E:A/SG switch to resin is more possible if a new Epic edition is developed
