Hi all,
Thought I'd post a quick battle report of a game Apoc and I played. The game is called Encounter - a hex based system designed for skirmish games up to full scale battles. This was a skirmish game. The model scale is intended to be 6mm, but being hex, the scale is easily changed. We're using 3mm (travel scale) for this game.
ARMIES - APOC
Apoc was using single stands of heavy weapons troops to stall activations. An army can include up to 15 formations. There are no set formations - they are created by the player and can include any units / number of units they like.

- Supreme Commander, 2x Assault troops

TURN 1 - SHOOTING PHASE
Apoc: wins the initiative but I play a Battlefield Tactics card 'Seize the Initiative' to steal it back. (We each have 5 tactics cards chosen before the game starts). I play another card 'Split Fire' to allow my Supreme Commander to fire his auto-cannon at multiple enemy Heavy weapons troop formations. I use 2 Hero Tokens to guarantee 2 hits, and 2 enemy units die. (We each have a limited number of Hero Tokens, that have various uses.)
I: use another Hero Token to retain the initiative, and one of my Mortar Teams puts down smoke to cover the left flank. I'm happy with the start, though I have already used quite a few of my cards and tokens to get there.
Apoc: shoots at a Scout Walker on the right flank with one of his Heavy Weapons troops. The Scout Walker needs a 6+ to save and, amazingly, gets it.
I: play another Battlefield Tactics card 'Off-Table Barrage'. You can guess what that does. I target a hex containing 3 enmey Heavy weapons troops. Apoc plays one of his cards 'Dodge'. That gives him a +1 on his save. 1 Heavy weapons troop dies (only 5 more to kill). I then use my remaining Mortar team to put down smoke covering my right flank.
Apoc: returns the favour and plays 'Off-Table Barrage' that he has also taken. He targets the hex containing my Supreme Commander and hits everything. I was just about to use a Hero Token to automatically save my Commander when Apoc pulls out another card 'Break Their Spirit', which reduces my pool of Hero Tokens by 2. Unfortunately for me, I've been generously throwing tokens around, and that takes me to 0! The Commander has a pretty average save, and fails it. I now cannot issue orders to much of my army. To make matters worse, my tank fails its save, and I'm forced to use my penultimate card 'Battlefield Repairs'. I get to re-roll my save with a +2 modifier, which in this particular case makes my tank auto-pass. The remaining unit in the hex - an auto-cannon, has no save and dies automatically. A pretty good passage of play for Apoc. After the barrage, Apoc shoots through my smoke on my right flank at a Scout Walker with one of his Heavy Weapons units, and misses.
I: target an enemy Heavy Weapons team with my tank on the right flank. I'm shooting through smoke, and miss.
Apoc: shoots at the tank on my left flank with a Heavy Weapons team through the smoke, He hits against the odds. My tank saves, but having to save causes a blast marker which breaks the formation.
I: move my Infantry up into the smoke. (They have 'Move It!' orders which allows them to move in the Shooting Phase.)
Apoc: uses a Battlefield Tactics card 'Feint', to move his Supreme Commander a bonus 2 hex. This allows him to keep up with the Assault troops in his formation. He engages my infantry and formation Commander - this is bad. I was so focussed on his many tank killing units, I forgot about the assault troops. He uses a Battlefield Tactics card 'Devastating Combo' to double the number of attack dice his Supreme Commander has. This is serious overkill, but hey, might as well ensure completion of the job! Apoc uses a couple of Hero Tokens to guarantee 2 hits, and my Commander and all the infantry in the hex die to a flurry of punches from a powered fist. I do take down 1 unit of Assault troops, which was nice (and lucky). Because I entered, and was assaulted in my own smoke, everything in the engagement that is shooting the enemy Supreme Commander is subject to a -2 hit modifier. Whoops. I'll of my remaining infantry units miss. The assault doesn't break my Infantry, so it will rage on into the next turn, or earlier if something triggers another round of fighting...
Apoc: has all the remaining activations now, so he jumps up with his other Assault formation to engage the Mortar team on my left flank. The Mortar team die like flies.

TURN 1 - MOVEMENT AND ENGAGEMENT PHASE

I: hold the initiative, so move first. It's looking bleak, but I pull the tank on my right flank in to help the Infantry. I'm still shooting into smoke, so it doesn't go well. The Infantry break, and I score no hits on Apoc's Supreme Commander. The tank is still there, so the engagament rages on.
Apoc: assaults my the broken tank on my left flank. Because the tank is adjacent to my unbroken tank which is involved in an engagement, they roll into one big engagment. This gives Apoc an opportunity to charge my unbroken tank with his Supreme Commander and get his powered fist working for him. The Assault troops kill the broken tank in Close Combat, and the Supreme Commander kills the other tank in Close Combat.
I: am running out of options. I move a Scout Walker up through the smoke in a bid to deny the 'Stalwart Defence' victory condtion, but it quickly gets shot and killed by an enemy Heavy Weapons unit with 'Fire at Will!' orders (a bit like overwatch).
At this point I concede. Final score:
Apoc: 6 (Destroy Command Structure(3VP), Stalwart Defence(2VP), Hold Ground(1VP))

A fun and eventful game, even though it only lasted 1 turn. I made a huge mistake in not giving anything 'Fire at Will!' orders to hit his Assault troops as they came in, and moving my Infantry units into the smoke really cut off my support fire options. Apoc played a good game and it was a well deserved win.
Encounter is still at the playtest stage, but I'm hoping to reveal more in the future
