I have yet to see a succesful "take off" conversion for assault marines. IMO it usually looks funny at best and downright terrible at worst.

Hmmm. Not such a good weekend. Needless to say, I did not manage to assemble the entire force yet! This is dragging on.
Anyway, I realised that I missed the Hunter off the to-do list, and this is what I am halfway through. I have it all figured out except for the 'missile hopper'. I will post pictures when it is done, and I will be searching the office for a suitable part.
I did manage to create the two Heavy Bolter Razorbacks, which look OK. I am not 100% happy with them, but I will wait to see them painted up. I also got the Preds done. After looking through the four packs I had, I realised that I have no Heavy Bolter sponsons! None!
I gave up being mini-accurate at that point. The turrets are correct, but three of the four Preds have the wrong sponsons. It shouldnt make any difference as it is clear what they are, but I hate not being accurate in the minis. I may have to replace the stats to match the minis. I have also had an idea for basing the Land Speeders.
Anyway, the to-do list now stands at:
Finish off the Hunter Four Land Speeders (basing is the issue) One Librarian Land Speeder One Chaplain Assault stand One commander Tactical stand
I will keep you updated.

Right. Term is over, Christmas is here and time to get this back up and running. Last night I managed to undercoat the first Tactical platoon. This makes all of the Bolter Marines now assembled and undercoated. Next up, checking out and altering the Heavy Bolter armed Razorbacks that I am not completely hapy with, and finishing the Hunter. Then the Land Speeders.
Here we go again. Wish me luck!

Woo hoo. Not much for you guys to get excites about, but I finally finished undercoating all the infantry (aside from the two command stands)! Updates will be more impressive as real paint is applied!

Saturday 3rd January 2004 A bit of a set back today. I finally finished putting together my Hunter, and then discovered that I dont like it. It looks like an advertising truck! I also undercoated a couple of Preds.
Back to the drawing board for the Hunter then...

I convert all my models to some degree or other. Have done for many years. To be honest I get far more pleasure from building them than painting them. Over this time Ive come up with a few do's and dont's. Firstly have a clear idea of what you want to make. Do lots of sketchs and dont start a build until your happy you know what your going to do. Theres so much stuff out there on the internet these day. Most of my stuff is inspired by other peoples work. Like my resently built BFG PlanetKiller, which was inspired by this http://www.epic40k.co.uk/pics/pages/gchaos04.html
Also Id say dont be tempted to make do. By that I mean if you dont have the bitz needed to convert you model to exzacty how you want it, dont make do with sometime simular but not quite as good. Ive done this before and ended up with a conversion I wasnt happy with. Its worth spending the time and money sorcing all the right parts.
My third rule is to Keep Everything! Never throw away bitz u hack of models no matter how small. You'll always find uses for them in future work. Spurs are handy to. I cut them up and use them to detail building and stuff.
