Hi,
Been a rather slow painting day, just finishing some bases and details. I've also been throwing around some future ideas, but needs some outside inspiration. Just have a few random questions, if anyone could help me out would be great.
1. Any thoughts on how to paint Scout Rhinos for Crimson Fists? Should I just stick to normal colour scheme, or attempt some sort of camo pattern?
2. Does anyone know of any suitable bases that I could attach my spare whirlwind/hunter turrets to? I am thinking of small X shapes (or similar) so that they represent permanent weapon placements, but still fit on a WM base. I've looked around, but inspiration hasn't slapped me yet.
3. Does anyone know which website store makes those 6mm mortars that fit in Infantry stands? Pretty sure it is UK based, but can't think of who it is and can't find right website anywhere.
4. Could anyone provide me with the dimensions of the Forge World Epic road tiles?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers, Freshmetal.

1: Camo can look good but of course any specific ideas would haver to depend on which type of terrain boards you are playing. A word of advice though is to leave some panels or doors your original Chapter colour to distinguish them as Marine Rhinos and not something in use by the Guard.
2: Hmmm... A simple X shape should be pretty easy to construct from strips of plasticard of even plastic spure. Add a square or round piece of plasticard at the ends for "feet". Alternatively look arround for the bases of 6 or 10mm models of WW2 88mm AAgun platforms.
3: GHQ? I'm not sure if they are UK based but they produce a wide range of 6 and 10 mm stuff http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/index.htm
4: Argh.... This came up recently on the SG site but I can't remember specifically... maybe 7 cm square...
Cheers!

Camo or tactical colors (but you all knew I was going to say that !). And the GHQ site has some great models all "camo'd up" ! As far as mounting your extra turrets, GHQ stuff may be a little small, I'd check the Reaper site. But W/M is correct on all points, something like a WWII 88mm gun carriage, just like F/W makes !

Not sure about the other questions but regards to Hunter/whirlwind turrets I mounted mine on plastic rhinos with the rear doors shaved off, so I ended with the 4 lead whirlwinds and 4 'plastic' hunters.

Pretty sure it is UK based, but can't think of who it is and can't find right website anywhere. | Look at Brigade Models. They have a small Mortar that has a round base.
Their URL: http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/
What you want is: SF300-5001, Infantry Mortar @ ?0.10 ea.

You could make your own from plastic rod as well- cheap, dead easy and quick too.

Hi,
Thanks all,
RE: scout Rhinos: I think I'll use the camo idea then, with grey/blue/black, as they're city based. I shall try some test ideas first however. Thanks all.
RE: hunter/WW turrets: I have some of the FW Earthshaker platforms, but they're a bit large for the turrets, and I was thinking of a more permanent looking structure than those. I shall attempt to make some, but will keep an eye out for alternatives.
RE: mortars: @dafrca: Thankyou, that was exactly the one I was thinking of. I just couldn't remember who made them. Thought it could be GZG, but you've found it. Thankyou.
RE: F/W tiles: Thanks WMN, I shall take a look on the SG forums to double check, but knowing roughly what size they are lets me know how many I might need.
Thankyou all, any other thoughts are welcome.
Cheers, Freshmetal

Hi FM,
-------------------
1. Any thoughts on how to paint Scout Rhinos for Crimson Fists? Should I just stick to normal colour scheme, or attempt some sort of camo pattern? |
I'd make them the standard Crimson Fist midnight blue. And, by the way, I AM THE CRIMSON FISTS GUY!
-------------------
2. Does anyone know of any suitable bases that I could attach my spare whirlwind/hunter turrets to? I am thinking of small X shapes (or similar) so that they represent permanent weapon placements, but still fit on a WM base. I've looked around, but inspiration hasn't slapped me yet. |
I would use small "X's" from spare sprue first, but you can get bases from many places. Brigade will sell you their bases without the AA turrets if you want. Scotia will also part out modern microarmor bases for your pieces if you want.
I mount my turrets on small rare earth magnets now so that all of my turrets are now interchangeable. It's soooo cool!
Another option is to mount them on bunkers or Epic ships. The small FW Epic bunkers would probably look good with armament. I have a ton of bunkers for my WWII and modern microarmor armies. I should have thought of this for myself!
I like to convert the plastic WW Rhino chassis to regular transport Rhinos to have variety. I chop them up to make all kinds of special SM kit such as recovery vehicles, water tankers, fuel tankers, engineering vehicles, command Rhinos, sensor or radar Rhinos, flatbed Rhinos, etc.
-------------------
3. Does anyone know which website store makes those 6mm mortars that fit in Infantry stands? Pretty sure it is UK based, but can't think of who it is and can't find right website anywhere.
Brigade.
Although, Scotia's neutral equipment line looks much nicer although it's a tad more expensive (shell out a few more coins of change!).
-------------------
4. Could anyone provide me with the dimensions of the Forge World Epic road tiles?
I posted this at the official forums, but:
3"x3" & 3"x6" or roughly 75mmx75mm & 75mmx150mm
-------------------
Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
