Hi all, long time lurker first time poster

About a month ago I caught up with an old gaming mate, and we got to reminiscing about the games we played "back in the day". 2nd Edition Epic (Space Marine) was a favourite, and I had a rag tag Imperial Guard army back then, with whatever I could scrape together on my budget (ie the infantry boxed sets and some fill in minis).

So we decided to drag out the old Epic stuff again and with a few purchases to refresh it into an army I could use for both 2nd ed and Epic:Armageddon.

Phase 1 is now done, I got through it really quick as I'm aiming for tabletop ready.

Photos are a bit naff as the lighting was behind the minis, but you get the idea.

Phase 2 is underway, will wrap out the rest of my main options before Phase 3 (Titans!). Was making good progress the last few weeks but with Bioshock Infinite just getting released....

Really like the nice and clean painting. Good stuff. Also glad to see chicken eggs get some love as well!

Yes the Whirlwinds are legal in 2nd edition, part of the Rocket Company (with Manticores). Also legal are the Rhino transports for all HQs, which makes things seem odd to me as 'modern' guard are all Chimera'ed up. I can also include Vindicators and Predators which reminds me of Rogue Trader days but just seems wrong now...

Its also interesting reading the rules where they really encourage mixed forces, so Guard with Marines, Squats, Eldar as allies. Its something I know I sort of lost over time, maybe playing too many 40k tournaments where the focus was on only having one army - and its something that with 6th Ed 40k they are really pushing again.

Anyway, I added up everything painted to date and its just under 5000 points...

Quick update.

We got a 4000 point game in last week. A solid victory for the IG, the gunline and some luck with the deathstrike barrages cut the heart out of the ork charge. Man of the match: A Baneblade which killed two Gunwagons and 5 stands of Infantry in one round of shooting.
