The Night Spinner is truly awful, epic fail GW! The Forge World one is soooo much nicer. The shape of the turret on it is more reminiscent of the 1st edition Forge World eldar superheavies before they worked out how to make them sleek and beautiful rather than tall and ugly.

The Fire Prism is ok but could have been better. It reminds me more of the 1st edition epic one with the gun. Wonder if there is any kind of crystal at the back to collect the shot (like they added back into the rules)?

I'd maybe like to see someone CAD a Fire Prism for epic at some point (either old or new style), as the current epic one is a bit badly scaled, but there are plenty of other more exciting model to.

I think the major problem is the shape of the turret, as Semaj pointed out. It looks like the crest off of the queen in Aliens. It disrupts the visual line of the tank and looks awkward. I think both weapons would look better proportioned in a more suitable turret.

Love both of these the fire prism looks like a tuff weapon, love the long gun instead of the short stubby one. Reminds me of a panther tank

I just had a thought - have any of you that don't like the SG nightspinner turret layout ever considered the following:

Take a current firestorm turret and replace 2 of the scatter lasers with spinner heads, either from chopped up warp spiders or from a Void Spinner (just fill in the third socket with green stuff). From the looks of it, the spinners heads of this new tank with be of about the same scale as the ones the void spinner uses, though warp spiders might be a more economical source.

I think that even if you tried to do a more ambitious conversion, mounting the spinner heads at the front of the firestorm turret, it would still look better than this new 40k turret. (Although I might be biased, as I think the firestorm turret shape looks the best of all the current SG Eldar tank turrets, not considering the wacky gun placement).

Oh, and as a post script, some guy on warseer is claiming that the nightspinner/fire prism kit won't be a 2-in-1 kit, but a 3-in-1 kit, leading to some speculation what that third variant might be. Based on the turret layout, I'd guess it'd be a firestorm, but it could just be the falcon itself. Of course, it could be something wacky like a warp hunter.

I think the third variant will be a Rending Hammer...

;)

I swear someone (and not me) on Warseer suggested (as a WAG) that it could be a twin-linked vibro cannon turret.

Unlikely, though. I'd say the D-cannon tank would be far more likely, given how rediculous GW has been lately with respect to tank weapons. Also, wouldn't it be great to hear calls from people asking for someone to do an epic-scale warp hunter? Because clearly the Eldar list needs a MW-toting AV.

Yeah, it makes sense if they're redoing the Support weapons at the same time... The buy two kits for a twin-linked Prism Cannon suggestion was good too.

Actually, despite an initail 'hmmmm' reaction, the Night Spinner is growing on me. Its far more consistent with the design of the Void Spinner in Epic after all, what with the small spinners mounted in turret bubbles:

I'm not bothered that it doesn't seem able to get that indirect fire angle either - thats only an issue when the tank is 'level', and it is a skimmer so should be able to angle the tank itself upwards withoput any problems.

The Fire Prism gun also seems like a great imrovement, fits better with the Eldar aesthetic. The current one, with the big crystal, looks more like a Necron weapon.

That's precisely why I *don't* like the new one... it *looks* like a gun... the old one, with the big bizarre crystal and such looked like an alien death-ray projector... which was cool.

I am with Chroma here. The old crystal looked way more alien and eldar and strange and such. Exactly how I always envisionend an Eldar main battle weapon.

For a new design, the profile is too high IMO

I like the Fire Prism. It is heaps better than the old E40K version for mine. Night Spinner doesn't do it for me though for the same reason others have mention, it just doesn't look capable of its mission anymore.
