Got a rules question about disembarking from drop pods, occurred to me following all this discussion of planetfall etc. and id be interested to know how people would play the following situation: A drop pod enters via planetfall and the scatter result places it inside the ZoC of hostile units. As per rules the pod diverts to the nearest safe zone, moved by the opponent. But: what happens if the nearest ZoC free zone is a pocket of space not large enough for the entire poding formation to be placed in line with the planetfall and drop pod rules? For example, a full tactical formation on FoW bases needs a fair bit of space and it is conceivable that the nearest safe zone is large enough to place a couple, but not all, of the units. So, what happens when you can’t place everyone: Should extra units just be placed in to hostile ZoC? Should the pod divert to the nearest location where the entire formation can be placed? Should it land there anyway and any units there’s no space for are removed? Should additional units be placed in the next space they fit even if this breaks cohesion? Etc., what do you do? Can't see this in FAQ, but please point me in the right direction if i'm missing the obvious ![]() |

I don't think it's ever come up but I'd likely move it to where the entire formation can be placed. |

I have never seen or heard of this either. I believe the intention behind the rule is for the Planetfalling formation to be deployed entirely outside the ZoC of enemy units. So the repositioning of the initial unit should take this into account, and the final position agreed by both players. Perhaps there should be an FAQ to that effect? |

moving to where the whole formation can be placed seems the most sensible approach to me I've never seen this happen either, but it can't be super-super improbable and I would guess it happens on a very small scale so much we don't notice (the space is just so small you pass directly over it or don't notice it) |
