I was introduced recently to this shortened form of Epic Armageddon. It seems to be very popular in France (or used to) and I think it's an ideal way to show new players the rules... and also to organise mini tournaments (three 1 hour games) in an evening!

So I translated the rules and put together a little 1-pager about them including 9 sample lists. You can download it here - goo.gl/RgyBH

I'm looking for feedback on the sample army lists I included as I'm not an expert on a lot of them but wanted to include a broad selection anyway.

EDIT: File and link above updated to reflect Commissar allowance of 2 instead of 2d6
EDIT: Link replaced with more permanent Google Docs link

This looks very interesting.
We were trying to think of something similar as an intro but this looks better than what we came up with.

It's been around for a long time (there are a couple of French guys that frequent TacComms), but thanks for bringing it up again.

I'm sure this is a silly question (not my first) but which way round does the 80cm x 120cm board go?

Do the armies deploy on the 80cm sides or the 120cm sides?
My guess is the 80cm sides.

Cheers for any help.
Steve.

120 cm would be the horizontal edge, i.e. the one you deploy on. Otherwise things would start too close to each other. It's basically a thinner table as there are less troops to cover the flanks. Still plenty of scope for tactics and the first turn feels like the bigger game's first turn for example.

If you deploy on the 120cm edge, you are going to be much nearer to the opponent than if you deploy on the 80cm edge.

I believe from your description Carlos that you mean armies should be deployed on the 80cm edge and start at least 90cm apart (not including Garrisons).

My thought was to keep the deployment zones as far away as in the tournament scenario.

You are right, Onyx. Deploy on the 80cm edge, and start 90 cm apart. The first part of my post was wrong but the second bit revealed my intentions I guess.

Right 120cm across, 80cm for the deployment side. Personally, I'd say anything from 80-120cm x 120cm would work fine. 120x120 would also have the advantage of allowing a corner deployment without goobing up the distances too much.

Well we managed to get 3 games of Minigeddon played today with 4 brand new players introduced to the Epic system.

Image

There were 2 Eldar armies, Tau, Red Corsairs, Speed Freaks and a Steel Legion force with wins to the Tau, Eldar and Red Corsairs.

It seemed to be a great success. I'll be looking to run a 1 day event with up to 6 games of Epic Minigeddon as a gateway to our 6 week campaign (starting in May) and tournament (July 10th).

Many thanks to carlos for posting this up!
Good onya mate :)

Cheers,
Steve.

Epic Success! Wow, never though it'd have this much of an impact! I wish it had been as big a success at my club! Any changes we should do to the rules as written? Or perhaps some of my sample lists are too daft? Always looking to improve.

I am also going to use it for some exhibition games in the future when I get my act together and make some time for it.

This is a great initiative.

Thanks carlos for bringing this to light for those of us that did not know it existed. Like most things on this site, if you do not know about it, you never think of looking as it is impossible to fine.

Cheers... :)

I'm looking to give this a go in the near future.

I think that the 1/3rd limit on titans should be enforced, and maybe extend that to include any WE's rather than the normal limits?

Mephiston,

These force selection rules don't override anything that's on each specific list, so the 1/3 limit still exists for all intents and purposes. What you will find though is that the formation limit of 400 will restrict the choice of Titans down to Warhounds and their equivalents. Similarly, you can have WEs but only in formations of 1 or thereabouts.

Having said all this there are still some issues w/ the rules as I posted them:
- how many free commissars? 2d6 is fine for 3k, but in 1k how many should the IG player get? My guess is 1d3 or so which seems okay for an army consisting of between 3 and 4 formations.
- what to do w/ nids? The 'official' 9.2.1 list doesn't have fixed formation sizes and so it's hard to fit within the 400 point limit as potentially all 1000 points could be under the same synapse umbrella.

Aren't Commissars 1 per 500 points now??
