Post subject: | Nominations for NetERC |
As many of you are aware, we have a position available on the NetERC. In an effort to open up the process, make it more transparent, increase involvement and generally reassure players, I am opening up nominations. At this point, it is unclear regarding one seat, but Hena has stepped down, and so at least one seat is available. It will work like this... Each member can make a single post here. Any second or subsequent post will be ignored. This single post may contain up to two nominations for a seat on the NetERC. The two nominations must be different (you cannot submit two nominations for the same person). You may nominate yourself. You may provide a second (third, fourth, whatever) nomination for a member who has already been nominated. This is not a vote. The person who gets the most nominations will not necessary get a seat. The final decision will be made by the NetERC with myself in consultation. The number of nominations will be a factor in this decision, as will regular participation, and so on. I recognise that now - more than ever - it is time to attempt to get everyone on the same side with this. Deadlines for nominations will close at midnight GMT at the end of Sunday 5th June. Following this, I will contact members who have been nominated where it is unclear if they are willing to let their nominations stand - for example if others have nominated them but they have not put themselves forward. I realise that this may not be ideal for some people, and whatever system we use there will be someone who has (often justified) reasons to disagree with it. This is the result of my thoughts on the matter, and trying to strike a balance between a transparent and fair system which is inclusive for everyone, and a NetERC which are alligned and pulling in the same direction. Please keep this thread limited to nominations only. Any comments or feedback on the system, or general chat, can be taken up in an alternative thread on this board. My thanks for your patience and understanding. |

That all sounds reasonable, best of luck getting this sorted. The two people I feel would be best for it and who I'd like to nominate are Evil & Chaos and Moscovian edit: Dave. They've both put a vast amount of time and effort in and managed community supplements through to publication. |

I nominate Dave for his highly transparent name and Mephiston, he seems to know his socks from his pants (UK, not US). |

I nominate E&C. I'm sure there are others capable of the position, but E&C is the best fit, IMO. Morgan Vening |

I nominate Moscovian and Dave. I have personally seen their dedication to the game and the effort that they invest in it. |

Dave would be a good choice. He is a regular player, well versed in the rules, and is single so there are no kids / wife taking up his time (this may be laughable to some, unless you have kids and then you understand). He lives in an area where there are about a dozen other Epic players and runs regular tournaments, so he is immersed in the game. He isn't a Champ of anything and I believe he would actually take the position seriously. He also has the same number of letters as Hena. ![]() I'm going to take some liberties with my one post and make two suggestions: The first is to not nominate me. I appreciate the sentiments but it is a waste of your nomination slot. I won't be serving for a variety of reasons. The second is a general warning about nominating anyone who is already heavily committed as a Champ, multiple list developer, and/or other type of endeavor. Ultimately you are setting this person up for failure and yourself up for disappointment if his calendar gets away from him. Best of luck to all involved. |

Thanks to CS for starting this thread. The criteria are basically the same as I would have laid out. While I am a huge proponent of openness and inclusion, tempers can occasionally run high regarding topics people are passionate about, like hobbies. If someone would like to make suggestions privately, I understand. Please feel free to PM me. As far as selection process, I don't have anything firm in mind yet. I can tell you that I will consult with Hena, Chroma (yes, he is still in contact) and, obviously, with those who are nominated. I would not expect to do an outright vote unless the nominees want to, but I'm not taking it off the table. Generally, I've found that consensus-building has worked well for this kind of transition. However, if that seems to "elitist" or "inner circle" or whatever, I'm willing to open it up further. |

I have always been open, honest, transparant and above board with my nominations. As I originally had 4 people in mind and two have since advised of time contraints, I nominate: - E&C - Zombocom |

My first nomination is for Dave. Knows his stuff and is very supportive of the community. My second nomination is a bit out of left field. I nominate Matt-Shadowlord. Yes he is relatively new to Epic BUT he is a very fast learner. He's also a passionate gamer and a tournament winner across multiple game systems. He runs a successful internet based company (so is on-line a lot) and is a great communicator. Basically, the man is successful at whatever he tries. There's also something to be said for keeping NetERC members from different countries (although this is a minor point). I'd like to echo Moscovians warnings and add that there is also a possible problem (perceived or otherwise) with a conflict of interest if a nominated person is also making financial gain (however small) out of Epic. Above all, the selected person MUST be able to communicate in a mature, calm manner. Being flippant, impatient, arrogant or autocratic is not going to work here. |

Post subject: | Re: Nominations for NetERC |
I guess, in keeping with my policy of standing up to my convictions, and putting my money where my mouth is, so to speak, I really should nominate myself. While I'm relatively new to epic in a way (I've only been playing this version for a year and a bit) but I have been following epic since titan legions. I own every edition worth of rules (aside from adeptus titanicus, which is incomplete) and have a strong sense of tradition and for the flavour of the game. In the year that I've been here, I've built a fairly solid feeling army list, incorporating ideas and suggestions from several prominent community types, as well as plenty of my own, and its grown fairly well. I've set to organising a tournament, dealt with many of the productive model-supplier types around, andfairly well immersed myself in most lists currently in production. Having bought, built, or otherwise schemed, a good 10+ different armies. I am always trying to grow Epic as a game locally (ask any of my friends) (and if it's of relevance, I've consistently achieved high results in whatever wargaming endevour i've put my mind to in the past.) I'm well-spoken, and fairly familiar with the ways of the net. I'm not afraid to speak my mind, or to listen to others. I believe in the spirit of the game, but believe that a well worded ruleset is key to allowing that spirit to be enjoyed by everyone. I believe that we shouldnt force ourselves to stick with whatever GW or FW's latest moneygrabbing canon-shift tells us (especially where it goes against previously established epic canon) but I also believe that we shouldnt stick with old ideas just because they are old. I'm also an unemployed part-time librarian student, who is not likely to get a high pressure job anytime soon, so while I am good at deadlines and producing reports and whatnot, I dont have anything that is likely to drag me away from my duties here (I also dont have any children, any desire or prospects towards getting them, ya know, ever, and my cat isnt particularly demanding of my time.) And last of all, and most importantly. I F###in Love Epic. frankly, I dont expect to get a slot. In many ways, I'd rather just have someone else like me do it, while I play games and paint models, but thats probably not going to happen. I think I'd be good at it, I think I'd make the game better, but I dont think I'll beat out many of hte other names here. Still, like I said. I have to put my money where my mouth is, and step up to the plate. |

I second the nom for E&C. It isn't because I think he has good ideas for rules, though, but because I think the "production" side needs to be represented. Otterman or Zombocom would also do, along those same lines. The only downside to those guys is the tyranny of the 'true-scale' nonsense. But whatever, I'll get over it, I guess. |

Post subject: | Re: Nominations for NetERC |
I nominate: - Mephiston (His insistence on playing the barrage rules wrongly not withstanding, he is a longstanding member of the community with a good handle on the rules). - Myself (I'd do my best to put the nessesary time in, and as a supplement writer I believe I've shown my commitment to the community). I would have liked to have nominated Moscovian, though he has indicated he can't do the job. |
