Excellent to hear that things are rolling again Chroma!

I look forwards to downloading my own copy of "The Big Book of Epic Armies that are Reasonably Fun to Play With and Against"! :-)

And yes, you can update the book annually, but with this method if a list changed you would only need to update that single list's PDF. With that done every click of the "All lists" link from then on would be up to date.

I don't see a need to update the main Armies Book more than once a year.

Then you wouldn't update it. But if an experimental list needed updating you would just upload the latest PDF. The script that pulls them all together would take care of the rest.

It's effectively compartmentalizing the lists. You only need to change what actually needs to be changed.

This also has the added benefit of not putting deadlines on development. There would be no need to get your changes tested and approved before the annual republishing of an all inclusive PDF. The latest list would be added as soon as you update it.

I think there are two issues here that are getting muddled up with people trying to find a single solution to them both when 2 solutions are needed. Firstly there are the core lists that dont really change and need to be published in a single simple file for new players to get started with. The second is how to distribute rapidly changing variant army lists and keep track of them.

So why not have 2 seperate approaches? Publish a single pdf with the 'finished' lists for beginners, this is updated annually. Then have a series of individual pdfs with each variant list. You solve the 2 different problems with 2 different solutions, then annually the variant lists that have progressed far enough to be finished are incorporated into the large annual pdf.

The other problem that is connected to this is the forum, its great and all, but some things dont help, like 3 year old sticky posts with words like 'latest' in the title, and then a broken link inside. I personally prefer the NetEA lists and would like to point newbies in this direction, but I dont, I point them to epicuk, why?, they have 1 webpage, with 1 download page, that has all their lists on, and each army has 1 document. This is what epicuk got right.

Agreed.

I doubt you'll find a stronger supporter of the NetEA "open source" development style than myself, but I find it easier to point to the EpicUK website for many things.

We're all volunteers here, but we're also all passionate about this great game. I appreciate all the efforts people have put into this game and I understand the frustration, and I'm sorry I've been a contributor to that frustration, when things don't progress as one wants or hopes; we, the NetERC, are working on getting all the gears turning and the balls rolling again and ask for patience, and help as we need it!, and thank you for your efforts.

Why not accept the help when given?

Too often it feels like the people in the top positions are 'empire builders' and are resistant to anyone outside if your little 'clicky group' coming in.

You all seem to have 2nd in commands that are non existant for the various lists (Nids and Tau being the examples for one) which also does not help the situation.

Yes, be patient, but come on. When help is offered many times in different aspects and refused, you all seem a little preciuous about your little empire. Many have said it here and you need to be accountable for your positions. Keep your ';titles' but accept the help. We get nowhere with the current mentality.

My question has been answered, so as king of this particular ant hill, I'm going to lock the thread.

I look forward to hearing news about the Armies Book soon.
