Rulebook says
Quote:
4.3.2 Carrying Out The Operation
[...]Simply take an action test for the spacecraft as you would for any other formation.[...]

So a Spacecraft can carry out eg a Sustain order? :D

RAI says no but...

It just says "...take an action test...", you skip part "II" of the following, since it's meaningless for spacecraft:

There are three steps to carrying out an action:
I – Nominate a formation.
II – Declare which action it will carry out.
III – The formation must then pass an action test to see if it
carries out the action successfully.

Here's something that came up in a VASSAL game.

Elysians Teleport in, Lunar activates and find some Guardsmen under the barrage (5 in fact, and only 1 Falcon). Can the barrage be called off? I said yes. The Imperium is harsh... but fair. Just like Gamesmaster Steve.

No, I don't believe you can "call them off", Pin-Point Attacks, certainly, but just like pre-plotted drop co-ordinates, they're locked in at the start of the game and are "fixed", so "friendly fire" can happen. In the "real life" of the game, there's no communication between the troops on the ground and the spacecraft, the attack area is "pre-planned" before the battle, it can't be stopped by anyone on the ground at all.

My question is, since the Imperial player knew where the Orbital Bombardment was going to land... why did they teleport troops there?!

I agree with Chroma, if you place your own troops into the pre-planned fire zone you either have to move them out or suffer the consequences! After all you get to chose when the barrage arrives.

I would agree too. You know where you are going to fire, surely it would make sense to try to avoid going there. Though sure, you can always misjudge things :).

Been there, done that, put a full Terminator Squad under the barrage.

Thankfully, my MW hit rolls were up to speed, and none died.

Why is it my formations can kill things with bits of wire and chewing gum, but give them a honking great big MW/TK weapon, and they can't hit the broad side of a barn (or in this case, thankfully for me, a full squad of Termies).

er, 'cos I'm a muppet and forgot :-[

never used a space craft before so I a) forgot how bleeding big an orbital barrage template was and b) got caught up in ZoCing all of his fms. Even funnier, in the 2nd game I didn't have either TK targets or anything under the template :) Then again, I used completely wrong points and stats for the Elysians anyway, so that was all moot.

I'd say they fire as planned. But given you can activate the spacecraft and the other formations anytime you want, it begs the question: "Which muppet are you?"

I also wanted to take out one of his storm serpents before it got to unload a fm in my face, which is why I didn't want to wait :)
