The 3rd paragraph of the errata doc re 1.9.6 (MW in assaults) is very confusing. First it says hits from MW can only be applied to units in a position to be hit by MW, then it has a note in brackets which seems to override this, then a note within the note overriding the overriding where War Engines are concerned! Surely there is a less confusing way of presenting this?

To be honest I'm still not quite sure what the rule is. Can Terminator power weapon (MW) hits be allocated to units that were not in base contact?

They're pooled just like regular attacks in assault, only allocated after the regular attacks are starting back with closest (eg base to base) again. As long as an enemy unit is within 15cm and LOS it can be targeted with a MW hit.

As Dave said.

I the printed E:A rulebook, CC MW hits can only be allocated to units in B-B. However since they are allocated after the normal hits have been resolved it often means that there is no legitimate target so they are wasted.

In the 2008 revisions this B-B restriction was removed allowing for the "flying MW fist" - so MW hits can be allocated to units not in B-B even if caused by a CC weapon. I prefer to think of the assault as a fluid situation where the people and vehicles are actually moving in the assault area (rather than the static situation represented by the models).

Note however the difference between normal units and War Engines, which fight under slightly different rules (3.3.2 Close Combat and Firefight Attacks) and where the CC and FF hits must be allocated to the appropriate targets.
