That would make the disposable rule identical to the Grot note.

I don't think that was the intent.

Ah true.

But I still think the intent was only as is currently written IIRC.

To be honest, I don't remember clearly, but I seem to recall that all-disposable formations wouldn't get the benefit.

OTOH, only the Tau drones actually have the "all drone formations ignore this benefit" written in.

Neither the summoning nor grot rules include a parallel statement.  An all-daemon or all-grot formation is extremely unlikely, so there's no mention of whether the BM defense would still work for them.

What do you guys think?  Should it be included, or should it be a Drone-only thing, the same as the Grots have the assault exception?

The Grot rules do.

If there are no Ork units in a formation, the grots count for combat res, and they take BM's when killed.

No, they don't. The Tau drone rules in Tau 4.4.2 are as follows:

TAU DRONES

Formations do not receive blast markers for drone units that are destroyed, but drones lost in an assault do count towards the assault resolution as normal. Drone units do not disallow garrisoning at setup if the formation would otherwise be able to do so.

There is no mention of other rules for drones-only formations. It used to be there in older versions of the Tau list, but it's gone, now.

Yes, the Tau Drone was recently changed. The units ability to shield AVs was removed, but the formation remains unaffected by BMs. Largely this was for simplicity. At this point, I am tempted to remove any save from the unit at all.

It should have that. Otherwise it's way too good an ability to have in a any larger formation. The Tau 4.4.2 rules have this and the Drone formation is quite impossible to break by shooting.

It should have that caveat that "a formation that is all disposable (Still pushing for expendable!) takes Blast markers for losses".

Think of it this way, the disposable troops don't necessarily *think* they're disposable!  If there's no one around to "encourage" them to get stuck in, they're going to tend to duck and cover: Grots hiding, Drones losing their network mind, and Gaunts eating salty snacks.

Well... didn't I just have that all jacked up in my wee little noggin?

I'm fine with it not working if the entire formation is disposable/expendable.
