Hi! We've been discussing a bit in my gaming group about air assaults, the rules for engagements, and how to counter them. The most common tactic used involved scouts units surrounding another, more important, formation. The scouts protect from teleporting assaults and FF air assaults, as you cannot engage the protected formation because of the scout ZOC. Against CC air assault it is a bit different depending on the rules used. 1)Using the core rules WITHOUT the scout intermingled FAQ : Here you cannot assault in CC as you would stand in the scout ZOC without being able to "intermingle" them. 2)Using the core rules WITH the scout intermingled FAQ : Here you can assault but the scouts must be declared intermingled. The scout offers a protection especially if they are rough riders as they can countercharge in CC. 3)Using the NetEA rules : You land in the middle of the target formation and put all the disembarking units in BtoB. The scouts are most of the time useless ( except for supporting fire ). I was just wondering if this aspect was taken in consideration in the Net EA rules, and if we interpreted the rules correctly. In this cas CC air assaults will become a lot more popular on our tables... Cheers! |

I can't picture what you are saying, thurse. Are you assuming that the protected formation is against a board edge or against impassable terrain? If not, then I think there are ways around all those situations. Also, Rough Riders move 20cm so they only countercharge 5cm. Infiltrate doesn't work on countercharges. |
