Handbook 2008 is not recommended for use...

By who? I recommend it's use as I am sure many others do.

If it is just a tournament thing, then that is short sighted. I am sure there are just as many, if not more, people playing Epic that do not attend tournaments than there is the other way around.

Is there any other reason why it is not recommended? What rules specifically make it so?

Hmm

The first two Morgan and I were discussing. We will take these into consideration when we talk tomorrow about these.

Just to get back to the original question, I play using the 2008 handbook for reasons of convenience.

It's helpful to have all the rules all in one document, without trying to piece together all the other bits and pieces, in order to come up with the recommended rule set.

I'll quite happily change over to the recommended system if and when GW give permission for the NetERC to publish it as one set of rules altogether in one place.

It's been a long time coming, but Jervis has confirmed that he's got the updated EPIC 2008 .pdfs and is getting them to the GW web crew for posting.

It's broken up into four files:

1) Sections 1-4 - Rules
2) Section 5 - Background and Units
3) Section 6 - Army Lists
4) Appendix - Reference Sheets

Unfortunately, no actual time line on how their web crew works... but it's progress!   :agree:

HUGE thanks to Hena for doing the dirty work!

Awesome news! I'll post about this on BoLS as soon as it's up, in case that gives peeps the reason they've been looking for to check out Epic.  :))

Hena or those responsible: Anyone want to send me a run-down on the history of this project? That should make for a great post in and of itself.  :)

I think that might be as exciting as watching paint dry...  *laugh*

A lot of "Oops, there's a typo there... resend... reformat... oops, got an orphaned line there... edit... resend... oops... that should be a '3'... *bugger* OpenOffice messed up... reinstall... edit... resend..."  *LAUGH*

That's very encouraging to hear, and I thank all of those involved for all the hard work that they have put into the project.  It sounds as though the IT work was very troublesome to say the least.

No one E:A original?

Keep in mind there is a large part of players who do not go to the internet and use the 'out of the box' rules.

Unsure about rulesets in general a little bit. Is the compendium 2.0 that hoyjn put out recently the official rules + errata? i.e. the rules version everyone seems to play and is the english official tournament rules?
