@ Charad: Thanks for the comments, let us know how it all plays.  :)

@ WE Dave: The 'Free Planetfall' rule was added to cover the possibility of units that don't need spacecraft to drop. Unless you are using a unit that has 'Free Planetfall' in it's notes you can't use it. So far nothing has it (same deal with disposable). The old 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 rules you mention as being in previous versions were from an older experimental rules proposal - that has since been rejected by Neal in favour of minimalist changes.

There are explanations for each of the core changes in Neal's rules change documents which is he is still tidying up.

Updated again - now v1.5

7.9.15 - More typos corrected and some clarifications based on historical discussion at SG.  Flame template rules added to core rules. Morg to start work on a German translation. Version number now reads Alpha Draft 1.5.

Special thanks to Biggles who sent a summary of discussions from SG and spelling errors, and to everyone else who provided feedback for this latest update.

Typo:

2.2.7 Macro-Weapons
(Note: With the exception of War Engines (see 3.3.2), during an assault, all units up to 15cm aware are valid targets for allocation, regardless of whether the hits are from CC or FF.).

Should be "away".

Space Marine Scouts have the Sniper option:

"Sniper - All units gain the Sniper ability - 50"

First, written this way it would mean that any Rhinos or Razorbacks in the formation would *also* get the sniper ability.

Second, isn't that a little on the cheap side to give four units sniper? ?I can't see ever *not* taking the option.

Gah!  :O

I remember correcting that, AND I pointed it out to Neal in his change document too!  Must have undone it somewhere on the way... grrr.

Re: Sniper - yes possibly too cheap, but then sniper on a single unit was widely regarded as just not worth 25 points and comparisons with Eldar rangers were made. Also there was annoyance at having to indicate it on a single unit and on it being limited to just one unit when entire squads in 40k can be armed entirely with sniper rifles. It was debated on SG and Real Chris suggested that proposal. However, in any case the final decision on all changes including this one now rests with Neal, so it may go or change. Would be good to have feedback on it though. You are correct it should read 'all Scout units gain sniper...'

Thanks for coments Chroma.  :)

My pleasure!

As to the sniper upgrade for Scouts, I'd say 75 points would make it a "decision" instead of a "no-brainer".

Keep up the excellent work!

Well I wouldn't take it for 75  :D  I agreed with others that 75 seemed too expensive, but would be good to hear more on what other people think. Remember Sniper has been clarified as not working in engage actions unless otherwise specified.

Of course I am a 'quantity has a quality all of it's own' type player  :)  I tend to like taking numbers over toys.

Have fixed the two mistakes you pointed out in 1.5 and updated the downloadable file.

Since the Scout *unit* is getting sniper, not their weapon, wouldn't that mean they get it for all forms of attack as the, even "clarified", rules stand?

I wouldn't think so given this clause at end of Sniper from Neals rule document? (Which I am 100% certain I had put in blue, but apparently not!  :( )

"Unless specifically noted on the datasheet, Sniper ability does not apply to attacks in assaults."

Ah, that makes a huge difference... it's no where near as good. ?*laugh* ?50 points should be fine.

I still think it should apply to firefight attacks.

I last night watched movie Shooter. It was entertaining and average action movie. But could you say after that, that sniper shoudn't get bonuses in assault? :D  :D  :D

Lol, I would think the same thing after playing various fast and furious first person shooter games. Sniper rifle = one hit one frag.  :)

Mind you perhaps it really should be much harder to carefully pick out targets in the swirling confusion of an assault... I think the choice in Neal's document may be more historically realistic.  :)

In the Salamanders Armylist The:_Real_Chris and i have written:
Sniper: All Scouts in the formation add Sniper to their Heavy Bolters for 75 points

Btween: Does anyone know where The_Real_Chris is? I didn't heard anything from him for nearly 2 month now.

Handbook 1.5:

- Eldar warlock titan is marked to have move 15cm, not 25cm

Good work, but some contradictionary rules seem to be there :]
