Apolycosyntosis' FAQ would also be a good inclusion.

I think CS's site is WAY too wordy and likely to put it off. Keeping it simple and clear is important. We could maybe mention in separate sub-pages for each 'Other forms of Epic', 'EpicA History' and 'Net-EA Structure' and that, but none of that should be on the main initial page, just the army lists and a little introduction IMO. There could be a separate sub-page explaining the 'Playtesting', but again the casual player should just be able to see the lists and skip this side of things.

Good on you for taking this on Elsmore, I'll be interested to see what you come up with!

Ok, I was under the impression it is NetEA who want a site. Are you suggesting the website should encompass all sets of rules from different projects?

No, the other projects have their own websites.

It is the NetEA project that needs a site.

I agree and think this would be best. We could maybe add individual lists below for each as well, but then it can be interesting to have them all together to look at and it keeps it all in one single place. People can always print the relevant sections for themselves should they choose.

Sure you can have a page somewhere listing all that kind of info... but it's about 10th on the list of priorities.

I wouldn't even bother mentioning things like the compendium or handbook - they're out of date and irrelevant once the armybook is there.

It's worth explaining them in the context of "what are the most current rules". But other than saying "these aren't any more", I'm not sure it'd be necessary.

My 2c...

The Home page should be simple with a cool picture of an epic battle and a big link to a Getting Started page. It could also have a menu with the following: Resources, Forum, History, About.

The Getting Started page should refer only to the latest NetEA stuff. It would be a quick tutorial on where to get rules, minis, etc, with more cool pictures.

The About page would describe who we are and the list development process (who army champions are, the netERC etc.).

Forum links to taccom.

The Resources page would include, first and foremost, the army book, along with links to the individual army lists, rules, FAQs, supplements, armyforge, etc.

Description of Handbook 2008, Compendium, other groups, etc should go on the History page, so people can find out how we got to where we are today if they wish.

From an outsider's point of view (who also knows websites), I definitely agree on the CMS front. The biggest problem with any website operated by people not paid to do so is keeping it up to date. If only one or a few people can do that, it will never be as good as it can be. If you use Drupal or similar you should be able to get a half-decent-looking CMS up quite easily, with permission levels set for Army Champions etc. There are plenty of simple re-colourable themes, you'd just need a logo. I can help you with Drupal if you like, and there are so many modules you're not likely to have to do much from scratch. For example, the CCK module would allow you to create an "Army List" content type with structured fields (e.g. name, version, who is the Army Champion, development status) that you can also use as tags/filters. I can imagine a pretty cool site with a powerful way to explore the content, really.

May I also suggest that you not get too sidetracked by what content the site should have at this point, beyond what is necessary to conceive the basic functionality required. If you have a CMS, people can argue details about content later and upload it themselves. If I were you I'd concentrate instead on getting an idea of the layout, menu items and required features (e.g. the ability to attach documents, tagging army lists as experimental or not would be neat). Dare I say that you're unlikely to get a concrete specification from "the community" (have you ever heard the saying "a camel is a horse designed by a committee"?), so maybe a more agile development process is appropriate (e.g. rapid prototyping, mockups)?

Just my 2p.

and here lays the root of many issues. WHEN the armybook is here.

all well and good to speculate and make plans etc but until you have a final product people still need a resource to play with.

We use Hojyn's compendium but only for the rules. It's an easy, one download file with all the relevant info. It's also printer friendly.

Many of the army lists (in Hojyn's Compendium) are out of date as has been mentioned so I've been using the NetEA Compendium armylists for our campaign/tournament. Unfortunately, there are a few mistakes in those documents but I've managed to correct most in our players packs.

I'm really looking forward to seeing an army book (downloadable file) with no mistakes and which is easy to use.
