Well, I haven't been idle during the forum's downtime.  :))

The 1.1 version of the Epic Compendium is available HERE.

Basically, I've stolen Marckonz's "Handbook" concept by integrating errata and FAQ 2008 to the rulebook. The FAQ questions appear as footnotes for easy reference and there's also a reference sheet and a summary sheet for the tournament scenario. It is no longer necessary to chase after several documents, all the basic rules are now available in a single file.

Part 2 will be army lists, still in keeping with the Handbook spirit. Part 3, probably much later, will be a compilation of experimental/house rules.

Please let me know if you catch any mistakes or typos.

Page 3:

Scrib should be Scrub.

Page 4:

Table of Contents has Infanterie instead of Infantry

Page 5:

deployement should be deployment.

adge should be edge.

Page 6 (I think):
"toenter" should be "to enter".

Page 10:
makrer should be marker

iniaive should be initiative.

Page 11:
"MWor" should be "MW or"

Page numbers may be woefully inaccurate, but I don't think so.  I cut and pasted into a word processor and hit spellcheck.  :p

Thanks for this, BTW.  :)

Really handy to see the FAQ entries on the relevant pages. Great stuff.  :)

After seeing some of the comments in the thread about Biel Tan tactics that has raised the Handbook 2008's status, I'm thinking of adopting the Compendium instead.

Thoughts?

Hojyn's Compendium contains only the official rules, so I definitely recommend using them if you are going to play with strangers.

In addition to Hojyn's project, the final version of the integrated rulebook that the NetERC worked on (primarily Hena and Chroma) has been delivered to Jervis.  It should be posted in the near future.  It doesn't have the FAQs mixed in the relevant sections, but it does include all of the original graphics from the published rulebook.

So... whichever style you prefer.

Is the Epic Compendium to be updated when the NetERC update is published by Jervis?

I'd like the text form with integrated FAQ to print out and thats up to date.

This one is already awesome, but considering possible changes I wont print it right now. I did print the Handbook earlier though...

It isn't the NetERC update that Jervis will be posting.  It's an updated set of the original Epic: Armageddon .pdfs, incorporating the 2008 Errata into the actual text; the "official GW rules" for EPIC:A

A final version should be going out to Jervis today.

The NetERC updates/changes are unofficial, "fan-based" rule changes that were to "extreme" for Jervis; namely, Jervis wanted *no* point cost changes in the 2008 Errata as he didn't want anyone without 'net access to show up at a tournament and told their army was invalid because of point costs.

Ah, okay. I understood this part by nealhunt as if there were some more rules integrated to stand as the original rulebook getting posted on the GW page.

As I understand you, its just the integration of the FAQ into the text of the rulebook thats online right now on the GW page?

As for the point costs thats not really a concern to me, since we play with the lists posted on this boards or that are regarded as official by NetERC, especially the Biel-Tan list.

Therefore I am just looking for a "final and official" ruleset.
But thanks for the work which is going to be posted by Jervis!

Sorry I was confusing.  The docs we worked up integrate the official errata into the rule docs.  No non-errata changes are included.

Okay, but its still very good to have it all as a coherent text on not as some additional page I think. Therefore  :agree:

That's a real shame IMO. One of the things I really liked about the Handbook (before I found out it's apparent lack of officialness), was that like BloodBowl's rules committee, an effort was being put in place to balance the game, rather than accept imbalance over the cost of inconvenience.

I understand the theory of 'no internet access make Jack a dull boy', but it doesn't fly IMO. If that's the case, why issue errata online? I can see someone showing up and being told their Scouts can't be Drop Podded, or their Eldar don't get Spirit Stones, etc. not being happy about it. Heck, in the last game I played, the Eldar player spent half his turn setting up an Assault, only to find out about the Attacker Stalled caveat precluding his Warlock Titan and Avatar not allowing Supporting Fire after his Rangers were obliterated.

Just seems that if there's going to be a re-release of all the errated rules, including errated lists isn't a big deal. A lack thereof just means that certain units (Predators, Land Raiders, Vindicators, Baneblades) and certain armies (Marines) are just going to gather more dust than they do, and other units (Terminators*, Eldar Jetbikes) and armies (Orks) see even more use.

* And I really don't want to see more Terminators. Still the most common Marine pick in our local group, even with the corrected ZOC/Teleport knowledge.
