Hmm that's an interesting idea actually...

Yeah, that perked me up real quick to. Although I'd rather be able to block the gate, I'd just as soon avoid the equivalent of the "Healthcare" debate on this.

You could tack on a "can't assault" rule and be done with it.

Justified by the magic of Eldar runes the gate possesses eh?

2 problems. Scouts and that the wraithgate becomes harder to hold and move round for the enemy.

I understand it's wonky the first time someone comes across the situation but it's not that hard to work through based on the rules.  The only problem is theoretical, e.g. "what if someone shows up with a giant gate?"

It's never happened in any reported game (the over-size gate, not blocking).

Even if it did happen, so what?  Just tell the guy in the warm-up that you have a problem with it and would like to set some parameters.  If it's a friendly game, no problem.  If it's a tourney, there should be a judge.

I think the idea of setting additional parameters specific to blocking the Wraithgate is just asking for more rules-lawyering.

Again, I don't think any solution is required, but I would be strongly opposed to adding a Zone of Control.  Regardless of whether or not the gate is blockable, putting a 5cm impenetrable radius around an objective in the GT scenario is a bad idea.  If I were playing Eldar, I'd pay 50 points just to have extra protection for one of my objectives.  Also, the option for dropping a piece of only-impassable-to-the-enemy terrain on the board is a far better incentive for the Eldar player to show up with a giant wraithgate of doom than the blocking issues will ever be.

Well I think if you gave the gate a base size requirment say X by X .I dont think you would get the giant wraith gate Gap . Make a standard size and you will have solved your problem with the zone of control . The tactic of blocking the gate is going to give an auto stategy/tactic to the more numerous armies which would give them an advantage over some of the less numerous ones (SM,eldar etc) Gives the impresion of the little dutch boy sticking his finger in the dike and saying "look mommy I saved our world from invasion ! all I had to do was to block this gate here with my finger and bingo ! Cheesey ! . I think of wraithgates as the tech version of summoning demons so can we block those (I would like too haha) maybe with a blessing or something , I would never want to because its an intergral part of the chaos army . Just my 2 cents

I always go to battle with Stormserpent backup just for this reason, If the Wraithgate gets blocked I have a backup solution. Also as someone has said, it just means you have to be careful and clear away the resistance before you can use the gate.

My one issue would be broken formations using there withdrawer move to camp the Wraithgate as they still have ZoC.. but in this case they are going to be easy to clear so it shouldn't be a problem
