I have noticed recently and even more recently tonight that it seems like ebay prices on epic are just going crazy. ?I have noticed that it is mainly a couple of buyers who seem to be spending tons of cash on epic items. ?It does not seem to be anything specific just what I like to call hard to get items like Titans, Gargants, and so on. ?Even the huge lots of epic (when they show up) are just way out of my price range anymore. ?Are the days of getting those sweet epic deals gone or is this just a phase? ?I would like to say that I am not down about this, but it would be nice to win something every now and then. ?:(

There always seems to be 5-9 pages of Epic on eBay. And Bartertown has a large number of listings too ... So there are aways a lot of Epic Buyers, sellers and traders ...   :)

Yeah prices have been on an upswing over the last 3-6 months for some reason.  Watching a blister of Lancers get $37US or a Plague Tower 28 Pounds is scary.  I used to pick up at least one Epic lot every couple of weeks but just about everything has gone way past the 50% of retail limit lately.  Even Squat and Ork stuff has gone up!!!

I think that the eBay price is a good representation of the current view of the status of SG. When SG are doing well, the price of Epic stuff drops as people are confident that they will be able to get their Epic minis from the source. When it looks like SG are in real trouble, people remember the cold Epic winter, and buy up what they can in case it all goes out of production again. High eBay prices seems to indicate that people have lost faith in SG continuing to produce Epic, and probably that the view is that the minis will cease to exist.  :(

I don't think that Epic eBay prices are due to SG status, I think that Epic:Armageddon is now played by many players, far more than a year ago. E:A community is growing fastly, new player needs too.

If SG epic prices were not so high, new players would buy minis on SG sites but most of them prefer keeping their money and buy E:40K epic stuff on eBay...If they can get the same minis at 80% of retail price on eBay, it's a good deal for them.

SG did not release all the minis that you can find in army codex, one way to get those old minis is eBay...now that Chaos is re-released, Chaos infantery ebay prices are lower than they were last year. If they re-release Tyranid plastic infantery, you won't see some tyranids auctions at 15$/sprue anymore...

It's hard for "old" player and collectors like me (like you) to find rare Epic stuff at a good price on eBay those days :/

Its supply and demand.  Chaos plastics prices have dropped because there is now another place (GW) to buy them from.  Chaos metals continue to rise in price because their is no 1st-hand source of chaos metals, and little prospect of there ever being one.

Nid plastics prices will remain sky high as there is no prospect of these going on sale at GW.  Whatever demand there is has to be met by the second hand market.  Since nid armies were never that widespread when Epic was a going concern, surviving nid plastics are rarer than epic chaos plastics were.

Nid metals are also expensive; this is tempered by the fact that you need plastics to make a proper nid army, so metals are less valuable than they might otherwise be (a metal dominatrix doesn't cost much on Ebay).

Metal models survive the long years better than plastic infantry - they are easier to strip.  I count myself lucky to uncover bargain plastic nids on Ebay, they are very hard to get.

Last time I bought Epic on ebay was over a year ago. And as long term Epicomms members will probably agree, that is a fair degree of restraint involved.

Partly due to moving house and no longer having a regulat internet connection. And even more so due to moving house, having to pack/unpack everything and realising that I probably have almost enough Epic.

I say almost because I know that as I finish off each army there will be odd figures I need. Other than that my wish list is down to Psi Titans and Warlord Mk 2's. Plus the odd FW model like Hellblades/Hell Talons

Cheers

Down here in Oz, the Ebay prices have always been kinda high, and very limited in number. Probably due to GW refusing to supply Epic, forgeworld or any other SG ranges. So the only other options is Ebay or try and order form UK/US and pay a huge postal cost.

I admit that lately I almost always bid on stuff on ebay that I have virtually no need for, if only to see if I can get a low price on it. ?I see people win auctions all the time that 'slipped through the cracks' and I think, "Dang, I should have bid on that." So now I do.

I picked up another set of Chaos Androids - might be time to build ANOTHER Necron army.... :alien:

So here is a question for everyone:

Do you think their is a market on Ebay for pre-designed Epic Armies?

I ask because right now I am in the middle of building a few 3000 point armies for Orks and Eldar in Epic.  After buying the blisters and such for the armies I am going to be left with enough stuff to build an additional army most likely.  People sell 40k armies on Ebay all the time.  Maybe not even whole armies but instead packaged formations.  Thoughts?

This one made me stop and scratch my head:

http://cgi.ebay.com/OOP-Epi....iewItem

$50 seems to be the average, I don't get who these people are who pay $70 for 5 sprues of Tyranids.

Complete armies are a weird thing.  Usually I find that package deals go for less than the combined total of their parts on the main Ebay sites, but the few complete armies I've seen listed on Ebay Australia have gone for silly amounts of money....so maybe if you target regions that didn't have access to new Epic stuff you might do ok.

I've been considering bidding on things on eBay, but generally I find that a discounter in the US combined with the favorable exchange rate between the USD and CAD and I can get a pretty good deal and get exactly what I want (provided it's still available).  I'll watch for things, but I'm finding the prices high enough that I'm looking into US discounters that ship to Canada instead (as well as gc-minis.com because they're close).

Things must be bad....there are about 5 "want epic" posts for every 1 "selling Epic" item on Bartertown!!!
