Post subject:  Talk some sense into me...

Some time ago I decided to repaint all my IG vehicles to certain camo. Now my mind is nagging in an ever more insistent voice for me to repaint all the infantry as well.

Problem number one is, I originally made a neat scheme of distinguishing my different compainies with each branch (infantry, artillery, mech inf, heavy mech inf) having different colored uniform. My new system would have all of them in the same boring ol' grey. Except I thought about painting shoulder epaulettes (i.e. stripes) in the service branch color.

Problem number two is, my first inf company was painted when SM2 came out although I originally started it for SM1. The other half of me is somewhat reluctant to paint over the proud heritage of my regiment.

Last (and most important) problem is I have somewhat large amount of infantry. With 1 tac company, 2 heavy companies, 2 Assault companies, 1 mech company and 1 heavy mech (gorgon) company I would have to (re)paint a modest 120+ stands of infantry plus 32 stands of cavalry. Considering I still haven't finished my 10K Squat army there is about 99.9% chance I'd become bored in the middle of the repainting.  :(

Could somebody talk me into forgetting the whole thing.  :glare:

Forget it!  There, done :)

You dont want to hurt their feelings by paintig over their history do you?

This is a crazy idea. What you really want to do is buy more infantry and come up with a different ID system... for example helmet stripes!

Well you have the dress uniform done, buy more minis for the camo used in each campaign!

I'd leave them as is. It sounds like you spent a lot of time getting them finished in the first place. There's something to be said for sticking with a regiment's heritage.

I'd have to agree.  Don't strip them of their history.  If you've got an itch for this new scheme, just add a special company (veterans, special forces, whatever you want to call it) in your new color scheme.

Add another vote to leave the veterans as they are- they have done you proud like that & just add more infantry with new colour scheme.

They are either a new army, reinforcements from another brigade, or troops issued different uniforms thanks to the wonders of the Imperial burearocracy. I mean can you imagine trying to argue with some faceless Administorum factotem that he had issued yoy with the wrong gear?

The would be grateful that they had been issued BOTH uniforms AND guns!!

Cheers

I concour.
It is not just re-painting the miniatures that is going to be a drag. Unless you want a horribly thick layer of paint on the minis you are going to have to strip them as well. Lord knows how much I hate paint striping infantry... *looks toward shelf with tyranids...*

...It is true that there's no such thing as too many Super Heavy Tanks... however lotsa infantry is also good :D :;):

Stop ! Do not repaint ! Get som DRM or E/W and paint them in camo or whatever !  And I have no problem with lots of Grunts ! :D

Yeah I agree with the others, don't lose the history and make unnecessary work for yourself!  Raise a new regiment and paint that instead if you really want this new scheme, or finish the squats! :)  Your intuition that motivation would die before you finished repainting 150 stands is probably accurate...

Hi Mojarn, very sorry, but I agree with all the above. I have a history of repainting models, and it didn't work. Too much time, too messy, too unsatisfying, and with many regrets at having changed things (Tzeentch won't be proud of me today).
So - new regiment!

Thanks! It seems you have succeeded.  :D

And Vanvlak, why are you sorry since you are doing what I asked? Or is it just for that reason...

Ignore them!  Ignore them all!  You really should repaint your infantry in camo colors.  I suggest about three colors!

And don't just paint them in a very lazy, indifferent manner.  You should make sure that each and every trooper looks different from the others.  Do not assume that they are different, make sure of it.  The insanity and and partial blindness are small costs to pay to make sure you have variety.

You should paint them now.  NOW!  Stop everything you are doing.  Quit your job, stop talking to family and friends, give up sex, get divorced if you are married, give away any pets you have, and anything else that is not necessary, like food.  You have to repaint this infantry as soon as possible.  NOTHING else matters except repainting the infantry!

I hope this provided the right encouragement...

I think it would be just as effective (and simpler) to buy some DRM and/or E/W Grunts and camo them up ! :)
