Hello eveyone ![]() as I believe there are more than a few fans of this show on here, I thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention: the producers of Battlestar Galactica have confirmed that the show will finish at the end of the next (fourth) season (read about it here). Although it will be a shame when it ends, after all it has been one of the best TV programmes of this decade, I am glad that they're not choosing to drag it out and so spoil it slightly, like they did with the X-Files (and are still doing to the Simpsons, as much as I love that programme). Any thoughts? Thanks for looking! ![]() ![]() |

The show has come under a lot of unwarranted fire recently I think, mostly from the perceived "de-militarisation" of the 3rd series. ?Sure there were less fights but IMHO its fundamentally a show about people, its just that some of those people sometimes have awesome space battles. ?Thats my way of looking at it anyway. Regardless, I agree with you - I'd much rather they make 4 good series than drag it out (and lets not ever mention the orginal series shows where they get to earth...) ?Many of the best series do this. ?Fawlty Towers is a great example. ?They wrote the show, made them and despite the success, left it at that- a timeless and successful show. ?I'm much rather BSG go the same way. |

I think that this is a good thing. I would prefer that they end on a high and wrap it all up, rather than deteriorating and getting cancelled so no-one knows how it ends. However, I have also heard that there will be a number of spin off series, so I hope that they are a lot better than Crusade! ![]() |

I just heard about this when I got to work (little secret nerdy cliques hiding in corners near the water dispenser whispering in hushed tones about BSG, SG1, etc ![]() It is a bittersweet feeling knowing it will end - much like reading a good book. I am looking forward to the movie coming out in the Fall - I am assuming it will have a relatively large budget compared to the shows themselves. |

I agree. I'd rather a show was wrapped up on its own terms, rather than dragged out needlessly and then cancelled without any final resolution. |

I wasn't the only one watching Jericho? You would have thought that given how fast they dropped it. ![]() Anyone have any info on the possibility of BSG spin offs? |

SPOILER ALERT!! Spoilers ahead- I have tried to be not specific about episodes for the benefit of anyone who has not yet watched all of season 3. Apologies if any have still crept in. I loved BSG series 3. I thought the various battle scenes across first 3 series were frakking awesome. The quality of special effects. The realism. The sight of big guns on both The Bucket and The Beast swivelling around to pound Cylon butt. But if every episode featured a battle as humans were running from the toasters then it would get a bit boring. The plots & set ups for "Battle of the Week" would become increasingly contrived. What appealed about BSG were BOTH the battle scenes and the character arcs. So Series 3 focused more on the character arcs. I think in the main the BSG characters were very well written, with clear motivations without resulting to overused stereotypes. My favourite episode from Season 2 was downloaded. It featured Number Six in Baltar's head but also Gauis in Caprica's head. I loved the way that the actors wer both able to play two very similar characters but with slight nuances that differentatiated them. Quality acting (and Tricia Helfer is always worth watching!!). So I loved the opening episodes on new caprica. They way it gave you many of the same moral dilemnas but with a twist. Was it right for the rebels to kill fellow humans simply because they wore the uniform of police force? We could probably all approve of killing a human that outright betrayed their race by committing genocide on behalf of the toasters. But what about someone who joined the police for a better future for both cylons & humanity. What about the specific moral dilemna Tigh faced with Ellen? She did what she did for what she saw as the right reasons- to protect him and to save him the threat of being returned to his cell- his first incarceration cost him his eye- what would a second incarceration cost him? The way they stretched the ramifications of Tigh's action out over several episodes- his descent into near madness and then his recovery. It added so much poignancy to looking back at some of the scenes in Series 1/2 when Ellen was catting around. And Gaeta- one man doing what he could in isolation to help humanity. The chain of events that almost prevented the bombing. The way he had to deal with consequences back aboard Galactica. How the proverbial shaggy dog saved his life. The only bit of series 3 that I dsiliked was all the guff about Starbuck & her special destiny. I cheered when he ships got blown up. I groaned later on when more was revealed. Plus the (probable) revealing of the last 5 cylons. How cool was that. Especially the 4 who meet. A couple of them I had guessed from earlier episodes as "would n't it be amusing if so and so was a cylon. But 2 of them caught me blind- I was gobsmacked about what that revealed about the lengths of time the cylons had gone to to prepare. I would have liked a 5th season but I guess keeping it to 4 ensures that it keeps the quality right to the end. Will leave a big whole though. Together with no more Trek and only limited amounts of B5 92-3 telemovies) we will need some new sci-fi series to get hooked on. Otherwise I might even have to paint some gaming figures in the evenings!! Cheers James |

BSG is one of my favourite shows, and I'm glad that they've been given a full year's warning that they're to end... I've been burned many times watching quality shows that were cancelled before they were ready / without having time to wrap up properly. |
