Just a quickie to say hi. It looks like I've finally found some people that are prepared to start playing Epic, it's only taken about 6 years. *sigh* Still, living out in the wilds of west Wales it's not that easy to find people that play GW stuff at all, let alone a specialist game. Still, looking to place my first order in the next few days or so. We're going to keep it simple to start with whilst we all get acquainted with the rules. 2k no titans and no fliers. I'm going IG since, well, proper armies rock. Here is the list as it currently stands: Regimental HQ Infantry Company Infantry Company Storm Trooper Platoon with Valkyries Artillery Battery (Manticores) Baneblade Shadowsword I've had a little help putting this together over on the 40K-Online site, it seems like it should be pretty solid but any advice that can be given will be appreciated. I like the idea of limiting the Commissars to 1 per 500pts(ish) rather than taking the standard roll; I realise that this will slightly adversely affect me with only 7 formations anyway but it seems a better way of doing it. -S p.s. Has anyone else had trouble registering for the SG forums? I've had the email and followed the link which told me I'd been activated but I can't log in. *sigh* |

Well, I'm a fairly aggressive player (in terms of tactics, I don't throw things at my, or my opponents, minis when things go wrong - promise). I've been having a nose around the various boards whilst I was waiting to be "reviewed" and given posting rights and there doesn't really seem to be much love for the Baneblade. In terms of what I had planned out for the various things, well: The two Infantry Companies can garrison the forward objectives (assuming that they aren't all the way up on the halfway point) with the Manticores sitting on the deployment edge objective. The Baneblade will move forwards to support the two Infantry Companies and form the main fighting line. If I keep the separation between the Baneblade and the two Infantry Companies fairly tight any enemy formations attempting to assault will likely be having to deal with the support from both of the other two. As I'm likely to have Commissars in all my formations anyway (I'll have to discuss and get agreement on changing the rules for how many I get, even if it is to my general disadvantage) these three formations should be pretty hard to budge. As things progress I, will hopefully, move the battle line forwards and move the Regimental HQ and Storm Troopers up to hold the Objectives in my half of the board. These two units can then combine to launch assaults against enemy formations that need breaking. With the Regimental HQ taking a single or double action to move into position and pound the target before retaining the initiative and assaulting with the Storm Troopers making use of all the distances to launch the assault from up to 55cm away (Valk move + disembark + assault range). If it is the "Break their spirit" formation or one that I absolutely must get rid off then I'll drop the Manticores on the target as well to try and break them before the assault lands. With the range of Storm Troopers, the Commissar and all the blast markers that are likely to pile up I will probably be looking to resolve the combat at +3 (I think that's what it all stacks up to) and therefore destroy the formation if I win. (and deep breath after that monster sentance). The Shadowsword will hang around at the back nearish the Manticores and just maneuver for LoF with the TK weapon. With no Titans around initially it will be relegated to taking out tanks and the super heavies that are bound to be around. I've been told that with the restrictions that we are placing to start with any SM players will be a bit screwed with the lack of Air Assaults from Thunderhawks and when we introduce fliers I'll need to readjust to provide some support for the Manticores and Shadowsword at the back, either my own fliers, some Hydras or assault based elements that can support. Anyway, enough with the rambling.... ![]() -S p.s. You may have enjoyed my first attempt better. I was advised to drop the Tank Company on grounds of ease of death/blast markers and a lack of activations. But here it is anyway: Regimental HQ Infantry Company Tank Company Storm Tooper platoon with Valkyries Artillery Battery (Basilisks) |

(Sytoru @ Apr. 27 2007,19:12) QUOTE Storm Troopers up to hold the Objectives in my half of the board. Always remember that you can garrison the Storm Troopers and their Valks as well, as they are all scouts and they may be in a good position to launch early attacks/assaults. And welcome to the boards! ![]() |
