So, Salute has come and gone for another year. For those unaware, Salute is the largest wargames show in the UK, held at the ExCel center. I didnt get the chance to take many pictures, and the ones that I did get are on my mobile right now. I will add them here shortly. I had the honour of being cast as the token 'booth babe' for DRM for the day. ("So, I get free entry and get to play with the new, experimental DRM rules using Tuffskulls minis? I dont know, let me think about it!") The DRM table was well attended by eager fans, new and old. I am sure that Doug or Paul will turn up with more details and information about the DRM games and rules. I wonder if I can also get Doug to put up a picture of some of the greens that he had on the day, since I forgot to get pictures of these. I did manage to get some time off for good behaviour, however. I had the chance to examine both Battlefield Evolution (Mongoose) and AT-43 (Rackham) to ake a look at the pre-paint quality. In my opinion, the BatEvo stuff was a little disappointing in paint quality, and I would want to repaint it. The AT-43 stuff was actually quite good from what I saw. In addition, I managed to chat with Peter (Baccus) briefly, and got to see the huge walking city module, which is even more impressive in reality, as the size and scale comes across better. I also picked up some light Centaur tanks. I was seriously tempted to pick up Hybrid, which came with the expansion Nemesis for free, but couldnt justify the storage of the box or the cost for something that I am very unlikely to actually play. Instead, I did pick up Confrontation third edition, with the first expansion book for free. Those with a good memory will remember that I was looking for this for a while, but didnt pick it up in the past as the campaign/development rules were not in the core book. This solved the problem nicely. My final purchases were, understandably, DRM, to expand my Kraytonian and Andrayada forces - including an Araspan and a Mordent Strange item of the day was some kind of laser tag corridor, involving people dressed as Alien, zombie and dalek creeping forwards. Overall, a pretty good. I think that the only thing that felt a little bitter was the fact that one of the centre displays involved Nazi German equipment and uniforms (which I dont object to) and children in similar atire (which disturbed). Was anyone else there? |

Yep, my first trip since they moved to Excel and I thought it lacked atmosphere. Fighting for space while trying to look a displays used to be the norm! Liked the DRM display looked really nice. Can't say anything really caught my eye so I picked up some trucks for my WWII Brits but nothing else. The forge world stand was really busy. Their thunderhawks are really massive! |

Yep, the FW stand was constantly busy. I tried three times, and gave up the first two, because it was constantly four deep with people. Then, when I did finally get to the front for some AI Valkyries, I was told that all AI Imperial stuff sold out really early in the day. ExCel is a better venue. The old place did have more atmosphere, but it was really badly laid out and very difficult to find all of the stands. I do think that this is the first time that I have actually come away from Salute with some cash still in my pocket! You should have said hi at the DRM stall. ![]() |

Most of my pictures came out blurred as I only had my mobile. This is the best one. A DRM game in full swing. |

Hey Cybershadow, if you were manning the DRM demo game, we may have actually briefly spoken! I was the tall(ish) chap with the long hair, the short beard, and was asking where I could find a DRM sales stand (I was after a DRM base, which I later bought). I spoke to one of the guys manning the DRM game anyway... promised to read the rules online and post a comment. ![]() I thought the day was pretty good, although not as good as last year (I think there were actually a good number more sales stands last year). Notably Games Workshop had a smaller stand than they did last year... I think it may even have been smaller than ForgeWorld's stand! |

Sorry. I would recognise you again, but I spoke to a fair number of people. I was the guy in the jeans, the purple shirt (more tasteful than it sounds! ![]() I agree that the number of sales stands was reduced, there seemed a lot of displays in the middle. Chris. Thanks for the interest. I will hold my comments briefly. The DRM guys should be able to give an overview of the game, and I dont want to jump in on their glory. I will say that it draws on a number of influences, and flows back and forth. I am happy to add my comments when they open up discussion on the rules. |

Iain, You're more than welcome to post your thoughts on the game & the rules. Doug will be putting together a newsletter with details of the day from DRM's perspective soon, but there's no need to wait for us. Personally, I'm actually technically still asleep even as I type, so I wouldn't wait for much (coherent..) from me ?at least ![]() Next time anyone from these boards is at a show & sees any DRM guys, shout "Hey, I'm from the Tactical Command Forums " (or better yet "EpiComms", as It always will be in my eyes ? ![]() ![]() For reference, I was the short guy in the DRM T-shirt who was truly pretty much a zombie all day. I had the Mercenary brush URL on my back & was also wearing a TMP "TuffSkull" namebadge most of the day. The Tall guy with long hair & a beard in a DRM T-shirt (with Cornix on its back) was Luke, my housemate, & one of the guys who's helped playtest the rules. The Other guy in the DRM T-shirt was Doug, the Boss ? ![]() I think its fair to say that the game went down well. We had people playing it all day & the fact that I only managed a short break to go grab some food (and bring it back to the stand to eat!) is a good sign that people were keeping us busy ? ![]() |

Next time anyone from these boards is at a show & sees any DRM guys, shout "Hey, I'm from the Tactical Command Forums " (or better yet "EpiComms", as It always will be in my eyes ![]() ![]() I definitely should have done that! It looked to me like the game was pulling in a lot of punters, and certainly that excelent display board of yours was helping! I just wish I could get my hands on some of those pre-production base models, instead of the ones I ended up buying (They have gravel details added that while largely cool looking, also have some minor flaws that are absent in the pre-pros) |

(Evil and Chaos @ Apr. 22 2007,22:15) QUOTE It looked to me like the game was pulling in a lot of punters, and certainly that excelent display board of yours was helping! I just wish I could get my hands on some of those pre-production base models, instead of the ones I ended up buying (They have gravel details added that while largely cool looking, also have some minor flaws that are absent in the pre-pros) thank you, I appreciate that it was worth the hours of worry having never done scenery before - it was a big relief that it went down well on the day ![]() With regards the base pieces, the ones I used on the baord are actually out of scale with the miniatures. Thats why they didn't go into production as they were. However, since I had them lying around, it seemed a good way to put them to use. In hindsight, it was advertising miniatures the public cant actually buy, so at some point I may have to look into replacing the base with production model pieces, but for the moment I'm afraid we're only able to supply the one range & we thought it best that it be perfectly in scale with the models! |
