Been bitten by the Chaos bug so as soon as the Orks and Marines are done, I plan to move on to the various Chaos forces.  Already have the parts for my Defilers, Decimators, and Death Wheels (what's with all the D's?).  Just need some of the new Chaos boxes when the US release hits.

Some questions though.

Like many, I'm a big Nurgle fan, and want to lean heavily towards his forces.  So how do you represent plague marines?  Any ideas appreciated.  The simpler the better.

Second, I've got a good sized lot of the old Chaos Horde marines.  I'll use them to make a couple formations for each DG, WE, EC, & TS.  Should they be seperated out  (a little bland) or mixed (a little inaccurate)?

Lastly, for undivided forces.  I'm leaning towards Iron Warriors.  I like their paint scheme over the other undiv. legions, but everybody does Iron Warriors.  Should I?

Thanks for looking and thanks for any advise.

I've mixed my Chaos Marines together to bulk up their numbers, but I can understand why you would want to keep them separate. I would personally shy away from Iron Warriors since so many people are doing them.

But what are you doing for land raiders, rhinos and predators?

For PlagueMarines just clip off the plume for the helmets of the reagular BlackLegionCSMs so that a tiny spike remains which every PlagueMarine has on his helmet. Then just paint them in DeathGuard/Nurgle colors :)

While I do have a few actual Chaos Preds & Rhinos (some from O-man, even), most will just be converted plastic Rhinos and old style preds. ?Land Raiders will prob. be a mix of the old plastic SM era and plastic E:40K Raiders, all converted.

For PlagueMarines just clip off the plume for the helmets of the reagular BlackLegionCSMs so that a tiny spike remains which every PlagueMarine has on his helmet. Then just paint them in DeathGuard/Nurgle colors

This sounds like a good idea! ?Now I just have to not screw them up.

Edit:
I've thought of mixing my Chaos Rhino & Pred parts w/ E:40k parts to stretch them farther.  Not sure how that will work out though.  I'll prob. only use them for WE anyway as the design is very Khorne-y  :D

How about doing Epic Night Lords for the Chaos Undivided? When I decided my own undivided legion the chioce was between them and Black Legion. I ended up with the latter simply because I want to convert Abaddon and Horus at some point. However I think the paint scheme could look very cool in Epic too

My choices for undivided would be the ones not mentioned - Alpha Legion and Word Bearers.

I think the WB would be the easiest to build under the Black Legion rules.  Just add lots of summoning kit.  Legion-specific rules would be easy as well.

Alpha Legion would be easy in friendly games, just use the BL list but pick ~1/3 of the forces from the L&D list and don't buy summoning gear for the AL formations.

On Plague Marines the suggestions to date have been good.  I would also say that the newer CSM models seem to be just a bit larger and more rotund than the others anyway, so they would make the best source for "Nurgling up."

Yeah, I use the old SM2 CSMs for the standard Death Guard, and the E40K Fattie CSMs as the Plague Marines.  The suggestion of cutting off the girlie plume is a good one though....have to use that. :)

Not much input on the mixed versus divided CSM.  I guess I'll go with DS.  I'm more concerned with what looks good than WYSIWYG anyway.

Night Lords are pretty interesting.  Color scheme is OK.

Alpha Legion sounds really tempting though for the cool CSM/Cultist combo.  Colors just don't thrill me(well, maybe just one Retinue   ).

I like the Word Bearers colors.  I just didn't really consider them because I was afraid they would look too much like World Eaters.

One of the reasons I was looking hard at the Iron Warriors is my prefered playing style.  I'm likely to play light on the demons.

Personally, I seperated my SM2 CSMs, then added some Mk6 and Mk7 standard marines for variety, and I did use the nominal "Death Guard" as Emperors Kiddies and vice-versa.   Mixed seems to be more prevalent though from what I can see.  No way would I mix SM2 and E40K CSMs on the same base.

And Iron Warriors are a snap to paint, but still look snazzy on the field. :)

If/when I do a Death Guard army (I'd really like to!), I will use normal Loyalist Marines, and add a bit of green-stuffery to make them look bloated and diseased, like a devotee of Papa-Nurgle should! :)

Night lords colour scheme is great.. very striking!
I planned to make alpha legion of my chaos stuff. I hope I can have my hands on new models soon. :)
Nurgle is easiest to make, with GS, just make bubbles etc all over them and some spikes... :)

I'm still rather inexperienced with GS.  I'd heard of some people using drops of super glue to get the pustule effect.  Anyone tried this?

I was also thinking a few strategic dabs of watered down pva glue on the mini would give me a deformed/slimey look when painted.  Thoughts, comments?

I'll also add various holes and nicks in the armor.

Don't worry, no mixing of old CSM & new.  New CSM will strictly be specialist units and undivided.  Old CSM, will be the cult legions.  I do plan to mix in some regular marines w/ old CSM for variety .

Got another question.

I know under normal circumstances, Tzeentch forces would be the most mutated, but since the Rubric of Ahriman was cast to halt the mutation, wouldn't thousand sons be one of the least mutated legions?  There's no one in the armor to mutate.

Yeah, that's the theory, though the remaining sorcerers might still catch the odd mutation.  I did mount the odd T-Son on a Flamer Torso and vice versa though :)

With low-viscosity super glue you can make thin bits more resilient, that really works.

Pva to achieve slimy look?
I have tried that, and with gloss varnish on top of that it makes good effect. those water texture stuffs works better, but of course, it costs more..
